You may not know this about me, but I’ve been teaching Pilates for about 18 years, 6 of which I owned a Pilates studio right outside of NYC. While I will always miss seeing my beautiful clients in person, I love how zoom has connected everyone and I’m able to teach around the world from my sunny little corner in Florida ☀️😎

What is Pilates? I get this question all of the time, as well as some common misconceptions.
1️⃣ Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates, his earliest clients were men. While it’s true Pilates worked with many dancers, the basis for his method came from training circus performers and boxers.
2️⃣ Pilates is a systematic workout focusing on strength, alignment and body sweetness through controlled movement. Pilates strengthens arms, legs, core, posture muscles and feet.
3️⃣ You’re probably not doing it right if it’s too easy. Proper ex*****on and form during a Pilates class can be extremely challenging. Even the basic Pilates exercises are challenging when focusing on form.

I’ve had a cranky back for the last few days… About 12 years ago I fractured my last vertebrae (L5) and it’s liked to cause trouble ever since.
I will say that Pilates put me back together and keeps me moving pain free most days, but sometimes it sneaks back in.
This is my 5 minute cranky back warm up I love when my back is acting up.
Rolling forward over knees, breathing into your back
Gentle twists (don’t push it!)
Shoulder bridges + reaching arms over head in opposition to knees
Gentile Twists supine
Knee circles
Lateral breathing
Ab curls
Obliques

Sit tall on your sitz bones, middle of the band around your feet, knees bent.
Make sure you’re keeping your head stacked over your ribs and ribs over your pelvis.

This one is a blast from the past!
Just start, not tomorrow, not at the beginning of the week. Jump in and do it. NOW.
For so many of my clients (and I’ll admit, I’m especially guilty of this!) it’s safer to research and plan. But do you know what happens? Nothing! We don’t achieve what we set out to because we’re learning or thinking or researching.
Not every first attempt is going to work. Maybe it needs some tweaks, maybe you need to scrap that idea and do a 180.
But you won’t know until you try, and I guarantee you’ll achieve more by trying and figuring out what doesn’t work than by procrastinating.
So do the thing- start your wellness journey, write the book, learn to run, start the business, take that trip.

Studio Precautions
As the subject of coronavirus has come up so many times in the studio recently, I wanted to assure you we are doing our best to maintain a healthy and safe environment for you.
What We're Doing:
• Ensuring all equipment is cleaned thoroughly between each client or class
• Washing or Disinfecting Foot/Hand Straps Daily
• Ensuring instructors sanitize their hands between clients and classes
• Doubling how often the studio is professionally cleaned
What You Can Do:
• Stay home if you're sick and speak with your healthcare privider- we are waiving our generous late-cancellation policy for sickness
• Wash hands when arriving at the studio and after class
• Keep your immune system strong by resting and nourish your body with healthy foods and water

Our Tenafly studio offers elite movement training regardless of your level of fitness. Element Pilates hosts private and duet sessions as well as small group training for up to 5 people per class. Each session is taught by an experienced and certified STOTT PILATES® instructor. We modify our training to address the needs of each client with a tailored, specific workout designed to help you move better and feel confident in your body.
OUR METHOD
The Element Pilates method emphasizes a contemporary and anatomical approach to Joseph Pilates' original work,
focusing on proper spinal alignment, breathing and biomechanics. In addition to Pilates, our sessions can include myofascial release, resistance training, and innovative stretching techniques. Our certified instructors have experience with a wide range of clients, including post-surgery, post-rehab, and pre- and post-natal as well as athletes requiring intensive performance training.
