Why I Don't Have "Teacher-Only" Classroom Furniture Anymore - Teaching Strategies Often called “the silent teacher,” the physical environment is a crucial component of high-quality learning experiences. Room arrangement, material organization, and cozy furnishings all assist educators in sending the Six Positive Messages to children in their class. In fact, the physical envir...

Truth is, teachers here in Massachusetts are mandated reporters ... which sometimes limits a parent's willingness to even hint at family challenges. Students are also often unwilling to share info that might involve authorities' interventions. In a more perfect world, all of us would automatically assume that any child not behaving or performing at their typical level is dealing quietly with personal issues... and maintain a compassionate, supportive approach. ❤

I Stopped Taking Work Home, and It's Made Me a Better Teacher and Parent Nearly 125,000 teachers are leaving the field each year because of burnout. Leaving paperwork at school on the weekends is one way to combat it.

"School failed me, and I failed the school. It bored me. The teachers behaved like Feldwebel (sergeants). I wanted to learn what I wanted to know, but they wanted me to learn for the exam. What I hated most was the competitive system there, and especially sports. Because of this, I wasn't worth anything, and several times they suggested I leave. This was a Catholic School in Munich. I felt that my thirst for knowledge was being strangled by my teachers; grades were their only measurement. How can a teacher understand youth with such a system? From the age of twelve, I began to suspect authority and distrust teachers."
