Initially a flat board, while gradually opening it unravels an organic 3 dimensional shape. The paradox in this separating wall element is that if the openings are closed, it collapses.
A way to perceive separation.
The openings breaking the reflective surface, disrupt our narcissistic view on things while questioning what’s on the other side, exposing the self to the others. An invitation to connect.
This piece originally designed for the London Design Biennale was hijacked as a result of the Israeli attack on Gaza in May 2021. The one now on display was set to be launched in October 2023, prior to the new Israeli attack on Gaza.
“Tous les printemps ne se ressemblent pas, c’est parfois une odeur de fleurs d’oranger dans l’air, d’autres des terrasses pleines à craquer..
Mais quand il se fait attendre, il est tout simplement chez vous adossé à un mur..il vous laisse avec un sourire le cœur léger.” milia.
“To mend and beautify without hiding the wear and tear of time passing, feels like a mission.” milia maroun.

I keep looking at this picture, mask free worry free, just laughter and love.
I am in awe at the courage of my friends, family, and people of Lebanon who stood in face of the year’s hardship and are still standing. Repaved the way to rebuild and reopen houses and shops. Were there to bring it back together and keep it home.
Can’t be more proud!
It gives me hope and inspiration for 2021

C. P. Cavafy: ‘The City’ (1894)
Translated by Edmund Keeley.
It has been 1 month since the Beirut explosion. We still have people missing. We still have no justice. We still have no answers. We still have hope; we have civilians from Lebanon and allover the world who rallied together to do what our government didn’t!

Who would have thought that not far from there a ship with 2700 tons of ammonium nitrate was discharging its lethal cargo at Beirut port. 7 years later an explosion ravaged the city taking its soul. Calling for justice! Praying for the lost lives, the injured, and all the ones who survived! We will not forget!
