Most cancers are beatable and treatable when caught early. Take a moment today to remind the dads in your life that their health is important and encourage them to seek recommendations from their doctor on cancer screening recommendations. Family history plays an important role in determining when to start some cancer screenings. Ask your family what type of cancers may run in your family.
“This program was a lifeline.” Heidi Varner, a cervical cancer survivor from Midland, Michigan, wants Congress to know that the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection program (NBCCEDP) is invaluable.
In 2007, Heidi began experiencing pain and symptoms she knew could be a recurrence of her cervical cancer, which she had previously undergone treatment for. But at the time, as a single mom to three daughters, she couldn’t afford a screening. Without the free screening and treatment, she received through NBCCEDP, Heidi might not have received the care that potentially saved her life.
NBCCEDP provides breast and cervical cancer screenings, diagnostic tests, and treatment referral services to communities that are limited- income, underserved, under-insured, and uninsured. Heidi says without the program, she wouldn’t have been able to detect her cancer and treat it fully. “I’m here today because of this program. Everyone deserves access to the screenings and care they need.”
Congress can reauthorize this lifesaving program by passing the . Send a message to your lawmaker asking them to support this important legislation and help extend this lifeline to those who need it most. https://act.fightcancer.org/a/tell-congress-improve-access-lifesaving-breast-and-cervical-cancer-screenings?utm_source=fb1&utm_campaign=access&utm_id=screens&utm_medium=social&ms=access_screens_social_fb1
