Today in J-Mac's Amateur Kitchen we're taking on the challenge in trying to make the car panini that Peter Griffen came up with on an episode of family guy.The challenge is to make this canned Vienna Sausage, Dorito, Reese's Peanut Butter cup, Cadbury egg panini half way edible. Now Binging with Babish is a huge inspiration to our little YouTube cooking channel so we decided to take on this panini and make it as tasty as possible! Recipe below:
Family Guy Car Panini Challenge:
1 Loaf Sourdough Bread
1lb Chorizo Sausage
1 Egg
1/4 Cup of Nacho Cheese Doritos (powdered)
Mozzarella Cheese
Baby Spinach
Butter
Lazy Mole Sauce:
1/2 Cup Chicken Broth
8oz Tomato Sauce
1/4 Cup of Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
1 Tbs Creamy Peanut Butter
1Tbs Chili Powder
1/2 Tsp Cumin Powder
1/2 Tsp Oregano
1/4 Tsp Cinnamon
1/4 Tsp Nutmeg
2 Cloves Garlic (Minced)
1/2 Tsp Salt
1/2 Pepper
In order to make this panini we're going to replace the vienna canned sausage with Chorizo. If the chorizo is in a casing, remove and place into a bowl. Take the Nacho Cheese Doritos and put them into a food processor until they form crumbs. Add in 1 egg and a quarter cup of Dorito breadcrumbs to the Chorizo and mix.
Form into little 1.5 - 2 inch meatballs on a lightly greased baking sheet (we used grape seed oil). Cook for 8 minutes at 400 degrees F. Flip all of the meatballs and cook for an additional 8 minutes.
Now let's make the Mole Sauce
In a saucepan add chicken broth, tomato sauce, chocolate chips, peanut butter (to emulate the Reese's. You could also add in 2 Reese's peanut butter cups as a replacement), spices, and garlic. Cook on medium low heat for 15 minutes. Add salt and pepper and cook for an additional 1 minute.
Put it all together!
Turn panini press on high and let preheat. Butter a piece of sour dough bread and place butter side down on the press. Add 5 of our Choizo Dorito Meatballs, mozzarella cheese, and baby spinach. Top is off with another piece of buttered sourdough bread, butter side up and close the panini press. Hold down lightly for 30 seconds and cook for an additional 5 minutes and 30 seconds.
Cut in half and serve with a side of our lazy mole sauce and enjoy!
I'll be submitting some pictures to Babish's Instagram under !
