Yup it's true! I have a little sister. She kinda ok...
Five years ago, MacKenzie, found Ginger on the side of the road. She was malnourished and quite beat up. She brought her home and nursed her back to health. A bond beyond anything I have ever witnessed in my lifetime formed between them, one of trust, love and happiness.
In 2017 after the fires in Northern California, MacKenzie and Ginger came to live with us for just over a year. Every single morning, Ginger would wake up her whole body wagging with happiness, her clear joy for life showing. She would not even consider going out or eating until she greeted each person individually.
She showed joy and love to every creature. Even though she had been badly abused before MacKenzie rescued her, she never ever showed fear, only trust and love.
In October 2019, Ginger's rear leg began to swell. The vet thought it was an infection and operated the day before Thanksgiving. By December 23rd the leg had more than doubled and it had to be removed. The biopsy showed Cancer. We hoped it would be gone by removing her leg but it wasn't. Be February the cancer was throughout her body.
Even through her sickness, Ginger still took time to greet each person when she awoke. She still took time to show her love through her long and beautiful eye contact. She showed us that even on her worst days, she was still happy to be with us and to be loved and show love.
Today, 20 March 2020, we took her to the dog park and she ran around one time even though she was clearly weak. The cancer had taken her sight and her breathing was labored. We knew it was time. She transitioned an hour later.
This is our tribute to Ginger who taught that every moment is a moment to live and love. I miss her already.
