I am a bit overwhelmed in this ‘moment’ I am having with recent work. I appreciate the encouragement that awards such as this provides. Too many times over the last 50 years (!) I have talked myself out of going after something I really wanted to accomplish in my creative practice because I didn’t feel ready or worthy.

Sneak peek!
The installation of the newest iteration of A Field Study for Recovery is now in place for the opening of The Contemporary tomorrow night. Through this work I seek to make visible a state of mind, a way of perceiving and connecting information and ideas across time and space that is not entirely visual in nature; and in doing so construct a narrative that is multi-stranded and open-ended addressing various notions related to time, observation, the accumulation of knowledge and the shadow of memory. This work is rooted in the histories and futures of our fragile ecosystem through an examination of our land preserves that are undergoing a process of re-wilding and ecological recovery.

work-in-progress…
A few forays down blind alleys. As always, I love the adventure of not knowing exactly where I am going or what I will find.

The new year begins with a few lovely surprises that I will share over the next week or two. First, is an exhibition curated by Dr. Joanna Matuszak that features my work from Surface Tension that is in the permanent collection at NMSU. The exhibition announcement features my piece: Boyhood (two narratives).

Ad Infinitum: Artists Against War and Imperialism, Curated by Dr. Joanna Matuszak, opens on January 20, at 5:30PM!

On view: January 20 - May 20, 2023
Bunny Conlon Modern & Contemporary Art Gallery
This exhibit presents artworks and war-era posters and from the NMSU Permanent Art Collection that address twentieth-century imperialism and its effects: militarization, nuclear arms race, destruction of human lives, and damage to the natural environment. Curated by Dr. Joanna Matuszak, visiting Art History Professor in the Department of Art, this exhibition also highlights violence and methods of survival, which not only characterize wars, but are often enacted by children and adults in the form of games.
Including works from the NMSU Permanent Art Collection by: Mary Frances Babb, Lane Barden, Seymour Chwast, Sue Coe, John P. Geiger, Daniel Kasser, Joyce Kozloff, Eric LoPresti, and Terri Warpinski.

I am pleased to be part of this 77-year tradition and to have my work recognized.

Details. It's all in the details. It is so easy to miss them. To look past them. To override them. To convince ourselves that they don't really count... or add up. When they do. They really do.
Every decision.
Every action.
Every failure to act. ..
Details from "Land/Trust: A Field Study for Recovery".

Full Circle? 41 years ago I woke up one January morning to learn I had been accepted into the annual juried art show at the museum. My piece - Pastoral Patchwork (a hand colored cyanotype on stitched paper) - was on the cover of the weekend arts section of the Green Bay News Chronicle. If that wasn’t enough, three of my very best art school friends were also acknowledged in the article: Dan Cross and Marjorie Mau also had their work reproduced, and Gisela Moyer, Marjorie Mau and I all were given merit awards. The news-clipping is worth reading as it catalogues the first cash award given to an artist in this exhibition occurred in 1981 when the juror insisted that her honorarium be awarded to the Best of Show.
I am very pleased to be included in this exhibition once again, now in its 77th year. It was 41 years that I last entered it. And once again, I am very honored to be selected for an Honorable Mention Award.
A posthumous thank you to my mother, Lucille Kehoe Warpinski, for securing my memories in epic scrapbooks).

Surface Tension: Three Landscapes of Division opened at the Door County Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Ephraim on August 3. The exhibition runs through the first week in October. On view are 20 selections from the 89 image project addressing the parallel border crises in Israel and the United States in contrast to present day Berlin. My deep appreciation to curator Karon Winzenz and the gallery committee of UUF and service leader Maryanne O'Dowd. It was an inspiring and meaningful occasion for me. Karon Winzenz ’Dowd

Continuing a survey of images and artists of The Center's exhibitions.

Terri Warpinski's series, Surface Tension, featured in Portfolio ShowCase 7, holds the test of time and continues to reevaluate the consequences of political borders and the human cost of Othering at the geopolitical level.

Surface Tension : : US - Mexico / Israel - Palestine / Berlin

My work is driven by the conviction that a border is as much a process as it is a physical location -- a construction that is a conscious human determination. It is a decision. Its consequences are many: social, political, environmental, economic, and psychological, extending down to the individual person as well as Incurring global effects.

Surface Tension, two geographies half-a-world apart, the U.S-Mexico borderland and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, are seen in parallel with present-day Berlin. Through these photographs, I probe varying aspects of power and conflict and the consequences incurred when national desires for security dominate other social or environmental concerns.

2020 updates (1)
2019 was full. So full! Too full? And in the blur I did not keep up with posting much in the realm of my creative activities. So I will begin a recap with this update: I continue to exhibit work from Surface Tension: Three Landscapes of Division, last seen in its entirety at the Besse Gallery at Bay College in Escanaba, Michigan last September. At the same time I exhibited work in a invitational group exhibition titled "The Museum of Natural Inspiration" at the Lawton Gallery of the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay. A variation of that work is currently on view at the Kress Pavilion in Egg Harbor, Wisconsin. My contribution is an installation titled "Emptied Nests".
