We are so proud to endorse Mariama Mwilambwe for Student Trustee! Here is some of her incredible platform:
"Here for YOU. Student concerns are the priority. My promise is to never pursue a personal
agenda, keep students informed of University policy, and listen to the voices of students who
want change, whoever they may be. At its core, Student Trustee is a service position; it fulfills a
fiduciary duty to the University System and a representative duty to its student constituency. I
vow to keep that mission at the forefront of everything I do in office. As your Trustee, you are
my number one priority, as we work together to make the University of Illinois a better place to
live and learn.
Advancing EQUITY and ACCESSIBILITY for all students. Individuals, student groups, and
the entire campus community has suffered from systemic inequities that have gone unaddressed.
It is not enough to just verbally reject racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, anti-semitism,
ableism, and xenophobia. Intolerance must be addressed on a systemic level. Diversity in
perspective and our differences are the bedrock and strength of our community. As Student
Trustee, I pledge to represent every student, elevating the concerns and demands of students
from all backgrounds. Listening first will always be my priority as Trustee.
Increasing TRANSPARENCY between the Board of Trustees and students. I won’t just
relay information, but will generate opportunities for students to create change and express their
voices. I will empower students by including them in decisions about reforming university
policy; going above and beyond so students know what resources they have, what decisions are
being made, and what actions they can take. Transparency empowers students, and reiterates a
commonly forgotten notion: that the university exists to serve the students.
Ensuring policy reflects a STUDENTS FIRST mentality. Crafting comprehensive,
measurable, achievable goals to improve the lives of students, will be the first steps in creating a
student-centered environment".
Illini Democrats are so proud to officially endorse Tyler Swanson and Vada Gregory for Student Body President and Vice President. Tyler and Vada’s campaign consists of four pillars:
-Ensuring all students are connected to ISG by involving cultural houses, student-athletes, greek life, and other RSOs in the executive branch of ISG.
-Advancing campus sustainability efforts to bring the University’s target of being carbon-neutral by 2050 ahead of schedule.
-Increase awareness of and access to mental health resources on campus and lobby the state government for more funding.
-Make the college experience more accessible by securing free season tickets to Illini Basketball and Football games for students on Illinois Promise and Illinois Commitment.
We are thrilled to support Emily in her campaign for Student Senate! Emily is committed to enhancing mental health resources, increasing student involvement on campus, and campus sustainability. Emily wants to get more voices, especially Greek life, involved in student governance. She is passionate about ensuring the accomplishments of ACES students are celebrated and their needs met.
Illini Democrats are proud to announce our endorsement of Lucas Seibold for the Student Senate! Lucas is fighting for college affordability, campus sustainability, and improved mental health resources. We know Lucas will be a great representative in the Senate!
