5kg down while enjoying his food. How does he do it? During the COVID-19 pandemic, Alvin gained a lot of the weight he previously lost. Not wanting to go through the yoyo effect, he reached out to work with me on his nutrition. As an IT project manager, Alvinās life is busy, and he also has a few social events that he cannot remove. What should you do when youāre offered a slice of pizza? Take it, bite it, show some unintended ASMR love, and enjoy it! For the bulk of us not looking to compete in a bodybuilding contest, or look like Americaās Next Top Model, good nutrition does not mean giving up on food you enjoy. What it does mean is to be mindful about eating those vegetables and lean protein, getting in those healthy vitamins and minerals, but at the same time, have a healthy dose of pizza in your life. In fact, you donāt even have to choose pizza! It can be anything you like. I just choose Pizza because Iām attached to one š In the long run, not eating what you like in the name of weight loss will be more harmful than eating what you like and not lose weight. No, Iām serious. Your willpower will be stretched, you may start building a barrier against certain food groups, and when you finally grab that slice of pizza, you may enter into a level of binge that may put you on the same levels of the competitive eaters out there! Processed food are often marketed as empty calories because they lack nutrients. But processed food really are mental calorie dense ā because emotionally speaking, they make you happy, and thereās absolutely nothing wrong with it! In fact, this is super critical for long term sustainability of your health and fitness journey. So remember ā next time you want to eat something you like, eat it, take your time to enjoy it, and move forward after that without guilt! And if someone judges you for it, eat him/her too. You donāt deserve that kind of negativity in life š
How aerobically fit are you? The VO2max test is a measure of how healthy your heart and lungs are. In the sports science labs, physiologists use this to measure the performance opportunity of their athletes, while in the hospital, cardiologists would use this to measure the health of their patients. The VO2max test is recognized as the gold standard test to measure cardiorespiratory fitness, or how fit your heart and lungs are. Aside from understanding how fit your heart and lungs are, you can also find out whether you are using more fats or carbohydrates at different heart rate, and how much calories you burn per hour based on your individual heart rate. In some settings, this would be called the FATmax test, or fuel efficiency test. Along with these and other data like VT1 and VT2, you'll be able to tweak your training according to the goals you are hoping to achieve. Earlier last month I did my VO2max test at @dexafitasia to understand where my data is in order to help me understand where I am training wise, and use the data to perform better in training and recovery. The video below shows one of our standard RAMP based test, which keeps the speed constant and incline upwards. If you are looking to improve your fitness this year, this might be something worth investing in. The good news is that no matter what level of fitness you are at, we have a protocol that would suit your needs, so that you can understand your results and work towards better health and fitness. Iāve been missing cheerleading lately, so i spent some time after working out today to do some handstands.
