Benet Academy Tennis

First Benet Tennis Alumni Reunion (hopefully many more). Great turnout in spite of the rain. Weather cleared enough for us to unveil the signs honoring the team and individual state medalists.

Great to see old coaches Mrs. Vodrazka and Mr. O'Connor. Tim Gleason (Class of 89) wins the award for the oldest alumni.

Congrats to Rick Huffman as he has taken a girls varsity position at another school. If anyone knows a person interested in coaching part time this fall, have them contact me. ([email protected])

Stopped by the Benet courts the other day. A little sad. These courts served us well for 4o years. Life goes on.

The boys tennis team won the ESCC Conference Championship for the 6th straight year. Winning individual titles were Ben Paoni (2nd singles), Danny McGuigan and Andrew Donovan (1st Doubles), Luke Gerken and Noah Bobofchak (2nd Doubles) and Nick Messina and Cal O'Connor (3rd Doubles). John Yahiro was 2nd at 1st Singles. Additional, Danny McGuigan and Andrew Donovan were vote the Doubles MVP of the Conference. (Note: Headbands were the uniform accessory this year.)

Congratulations to Danny McGuigan and Andrew Donovan. They finished 3rd at the IHSA Benet Academy Sectional and qualified for the State Tournament.

It is the end of an era. The tennis courts on the campus have seen their last practice. They will make way for the new construction. The boys team held their last practice there today as Danny McGuigan and Andrew Donovan get ready for the State Tournament which begins Thursday.

Good weekend at Naperville North Invitational. Strong performances by the guys. Today (Monday) a close 4-3 win over Conant. A little snow does not stop us. Also, Coach Michael Hand's 500th career win at the boys varsity.

The team took a day off from practice on Tuesday to volunteer at Feed My Starving Children. Of course, a trip to Portillos afterward was in order.

FMSC

Congrats to the team on a second place finish at the IHSA Sectional Tournament at Proviso West (behind Hinsdale Central). Danny McGuigan-Casey Schrader finshed 3rd and Ben Lee finished 4th. They all qualify for the IHSA State Tournament, beginning Thursday. Danny Smith-Luke Gerken and Ben Paoni also played and lost tough first round matches.

Long night at the Shedd for Prom. They clean up nicely.

Senior night to honor our 4 seniors for their contributions to the program. Matt Camp, Kevin O'Sullivan, Danny Smith and Ryan Yang. (Playing the part of Matt Camp's mom is Luke Gerken.)

Finally, a great weekend for tennis. The team finished 4th out of 16 teams at the NaperValley Tennis Invitational. Ben Lee (1st Singles) and Ben Paoni (2nd Singles) won the consolation bracket and Danny McGuigan\Casey Schrader (1st Doubles) finished 3rd.

After a long day of tennis, nothing like a team dinner hosted by the McGuigans.
