Skal Alice Springs was re-formed on 1st November 2017. Members meet monthly for networking events. Contact [email protected] for details
Skål is a professional organisation of tourism leaders around the world, promoting global tourism and friendship. It is the only international group uniting all branches of the travel and tourism industry. Its members, the industry’s managers and executives, meet at local, national, regional and international levels to discuss and pursue topics of common interest. The first Club was founded in 193
Dearest Fellow Skalleagues,
It is with a heavy heart that I write this email to you this morning. After much consideration by the Skal Australia Committee, it has been decided that holding the AGM and National assembly in Alice Springs poses too great a risk due to the current Covid-19 situation in the NT. The Assembly and AGM was set to be held over the weekend of 18th and 19th March, 2022.
With this situation still evolving, it is uncertain that we will be able to hold the event safely. As well as this issue, the risk of delegates arriving with Covid is a risk Skal is not willing to take.
I spoke with Skal Australia President, Frances Fausett at length yesterday and she has asked me to please pass on her sincerest apologies and regret at having to inform me of this decision. If you have any questions, concerns or would like to touch base with Frances, please email her on this address. She is more than happy for our members to contact her directly.
[email protected]
This decision was made this week and was not made lightly. Logistically, delegates are having great difficulty with travel to the area as well, with flights operating very sporadically and costing more than usual.
I do hope you can understand this decision and agree that it is the right decision for now. A special edition of the Skal newsletter will be released over the coming days.
Please take care during this time and stay safe and sane.
Yours in Skal,
Ric
Alice Springs President

Sadly, the 2021 September National Assembly will not be face to face. Please read this message from President Frances.
Good afternoon Presidents and Skalleagues,
Sadly, I have to advise that the face-to-face National Assembly scheduled to be held 10 & 11 Sept in Launceston cannot proceed.
Uncertainty of borders restrictions, both existing and re-entering states, makes travel for many of our Skalleagues impractical and delaying this decision any longer is very unfair to the organising committee.
This meeting will now be held via zoom with the National Executive and all Presidents and additional voting delegates attending.
Observers will be welcome via facebook.
The meeting Agenda and timings will be forwarded soon.
I sincerely thank President Damien and the Launceston organising committee for all their efforts.
I wish we could all be meeting “in person” Hopefully in Alice Springs in March 2022!
Please contact me if you have any queries.
Cheers & Skål!
Frances

Skal International Celebrating the 89th Anniversary
April 5, 2021
MÁLAGA, Spain, April 5, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- First Skal Club was established in 1932 in Paris, France. After its foundation, the Club was promoted by the friendship between a group of Parisian Travel Agents who several transport companies invited to present a new aircraft destined for the Amsterdam-Copenhagen-Malmo flight.
The idea of International friendship between Tourism Professionals grew, and by early 1934 there were already 12 Clubs formed in five countries. It was then that the idea arose to create a partnership that brings together all the Clubs, to foster goodwill and friendship in the Travel and Transport sectors around the World
