Covid finally got me. It was the ******* schools.

Kids no longer mask or get tested, so it was easy to get.

I was hoping to get my 40 days of substitute teaching in. Plus I was supposed to have 3 days on a particular NBC show, but they held us and canceled us without cancelation pay. So alas, I tried to make some $ and got Covid.

I got hit like a brick, but it's passing quickly. I had started taking Oscillo on Sunday when I had a few sniffles. I continued to do so through Monday and Tuesday.

It started with Sunday into Monday when I could not sleep (from 2am). My body just hurt. I got up and made breakfast. Took a bite. The muffin tasted weird. I put everything into a Tupperware and back into the fridge as I couldn't eat. Then it was the migraine, dizziness and nausea. My thermometer put me at 100.8.

I walked to urgent care. She tested for both covid and the flu and it was the former. She said to isolate for 5 days and I can retest on Sunday.

I asked about Paxlovid. I had her make the prescription, but once I saw what the meds were made of (one of the 3 pills is an HIV medicine), and the side effects, I decided to stick with my oscillo and just Tylenol and herbs.

Tuesday I could take a few bites of food, but was super weak. Migranes, fever and body aches. But thankfully not a bad cough or congestion like most people get. The Claritin worked for any drip.

Wed., just the migraines. BAD migraines. I put ice packs on my head, as I did not want to keep taking Tylenol. My stomach was not liking it, even though I still had a low grade fever.

I went for a walk on my running route.

I usually run at least 6 miles, but could only walk 3.8 according to my app.

And slower than normal. I did manage some weights, but I used 15s instead of 20s. Just did more reps.

I managed to eat a light dinner last night. It went RIGHT THROUGH ME.

Anyway, I'm relatively faring better than most described. Will do my Yoga series soon. I ate a real breakfast today. My tummy hurts a little from I think any Tylenol/Advil for the fever and migraines so I am trying to just deal with them. I don't want an ulcer.

I have been using Oscillo since 1994. It has saved me from MANY a serious cold/flu and now covid. Although it could not prevent it totally, I have to say that on day 4 I am doing ok considering. The doctors try to get you to take 'real drugs" and "over the counter" drugs. But Oscillo teaches the body how to fight symptoms off. I also use the ARNICA for headaches. Homeopathic and herbs is the way to go.

Besides my smart (dumb) watch, I also use my ipod to "track my fitness". On a typical "run" day, I easily bag 12 miles between the run itself, and just daily activity. However, depending where I swim, if I drive right to the pool, say, in Port Chester, my app logs like 1 mile of walking, but my 2 hours of swimming (I input this manually).

My app will then send me messages about "the importance of getting enough steps" and "what to do about low cardio".

Besides general fitness and looking good, exercise, stretching, and strength training is valuable for DLA skills.

It is VERY important for people to learn, if they can't already, how to recover from a fall, and how to fall properly.

This seems silly, but while getting lost in Queens, a man fell on the sidewalk, or trying to get onto the sidewalk. At first, he refused my help, but then agreed to let another man and I each take him under the arm and hoist him up. I was trying to coach him to put one foot forward over and over, and he really couldn't.

With Silver Sneakers, we teach seniors how to roll onto one side, put one foot forward, and if possible, use a wall or chair to push off to get up.

I have fallen on the ice when the MTA failed yet again, and wouldn't take me home. I Slid down a hill once in 2015, damaging 2 of my fingers. But the rest of me was ok.

Someone who does not have as much muscle, or agility can be seriously hurt.

It is a life skill that needs to be practiced with our seniors.

Back from a glorious summer. Not having an easy time transitioning back to NY at all. But, I relieve stress (and the feeling I want to punch a wall) by exercising.

Exercise is a major STRESS RELIEVER.

And, it helps brain function, as well as body function.

There are studies that cardio in particular helps with memory function as well. For me, I know it provides major stimulous, and helps me write, and relax.

Many of you know I teach fitness, however, for a solid 25 years. I
trained people privately in their homes as well, and am looking to do
back to doing just this. My prices are low compared to most trainers.
I am certified by NASM and AAFA, and also teach seniors, people with corrective exercise issues, pilates, weight training, yoga, and chair exercise. Please contact me if someone you know is interested. $20 half-hour sessions, $30 per hour via zoom, or longer viz skype or facetime. However, mention you are on my list, and 1-hour ZOOM
sessions remain at $25 per hour for the remainder of 2021.

I am unafraid of training at home or in the park. The price will
depend on where you live but will be more of the regular rate. We have
masks, and we will work out what equipment is needed based on your
fitness needs, or musical needs.

I have Venmo, and Paypal (Chase QuickPay, CashApp, and Zelle
are no longer options, I am afraid...) I have worked out the sound
situation for the guitar lessons, and I use a "mighty mic" when I play
so that the sound is clear to my student.
At the end of the lesson, my guitar students will receive a
well-recorded video (on my Nikon) so that the sound and picture are
clear, to go over what we showed in the lesson.

I will take it with a grain of salt, but I walked all day with my ipod, as I forgot the smart (du***ss) watch. I think I true real feel ran 6+ miles, but it calculated 8+. For a daily total of 12.8 miles. 3 of them IN THE SNOW!

Two weeks after falling because of a pothole and spraining my ankle, I ran 1 hour 10 minutes, softly. Swimming, the theraband, the tens machine, and now my at home ultrasound therapy machine, all helped. Had to go through my braces to see which one to use, and I think the ace one gave the best support and flexibility....it is a lace up/velcro one, but not as crazy as the one I got last year from the Orthopedist. I have all I need to P.T. myself. No more bad physical therapist. One last year threw me off a BAPS board machine and re-sprained my ankle. Wish I had video. But I did report him.

One of the workers at the school where I sub said she needed to microwave the cookies she was having for breakfast.

I explained that cookies only provide a sugar rush, and then a crash, and not the all morning energy that she needs.

Think about sustainable fuel.

Today's run. I guess 2 more minutes would make the complete 6 miles. But you never know. I will finally swim tomorrow. Been a busy week...not complaining, but I did YOGA every day, sometimes on set in the hotel rooms they provided for holding. Was able to get long runs in on Sunday, Thursday, and today. Usually I get 6+ cardios (my version!) in per week. But busy is busy, so YOGA is most imperative to keep my arms and legs limber and strong, when I can't swim.

"Health Things You can do in FRONT of the TV"

This book has been 9 years in the making. In the initial photos, taken in 2009, I had 3 lovely volunteers: Pete, Patrick and Willie, who were kind enough to show the bad habits, as well as simple, effective exercises people can do while still enjoying the TV>

Cut to 2016, Motivational Press, picked up the idea, and after 12 weeks of coaching, I managed to write the MEAT of the book, the foundation, the why this came to be, and even I have changed my behavior from bad to good, and wanted to share my story as well as my teaching methods. It took almost 2 years of back and forth editing, formatting, putting the photos in the right place, etc, but the book is now lovely and ready to release May 2 in time for Mother’s Day.

As we all know, America tends to be more sedentary than it should, and fitness can be done at home, even as a family event. The book is geared towards beginners who maybe have been scared off by the gym experience, and want to do something at home, or anywhere, and don't know where to begin. My teaching methods have always been with safety and neutral spine in mind so that people of all ages and levels can get stronger and do it in a safe, effective manner.
