Let’s talk about burnout.

This is something that has (and continues to) affect me so I am not going to preach to you about what you should or shouldn’t be doing, because that would make me a bit of a hypocrite!

Some days it’s so easy for me to say that there should be a work/life balance and self care is essential. I do believe those things but do not always take my own advice. It is easy to tell someone else what they should be doing, but then not apply it to your own situation.

But the fact of the matter is that burn out is a real and serious thing. We should all do more to make sure that we are getting the things we need...a good night sleep, rest, time away from the screens, a healthy and nutritious diet. We shouldn’t feel guilty for taking care of ourselves!

Sometimes it’s tough when you feel like you have to put in the extra hours at work or you’re juggling a million different things. But the thing is, if you don’t choose to take that rest time for yourself, your body will and it’s like to be in the form of illness.

It’s hard sometimes to do what is best for you when you think you need to be on top form for everyone else. But if you don’t look after yourself, you’re not helping anyone!

So take sometime. Breathe. Relax.

Generally, there is no specific test to diagnose menopause. Diagnosis is usually based on your age and symptoms.

Menopause has a wide range of symptoms—about 40 in total—not just hot flushes. If you think you might be perimenopausal, be sure to review the full list of symptoms.

Unfortunately, many healthcare professionals lack training in menopause, which can lead to delays in diagnosis for some women, sometimes lasting months or years.

Pay attention to your body, use a symptom tracker, and don't hesitate to consult a healthcare professional. If you feel unheard, keep seeking help until you get the support you need.

The process is divided into four distinct stages, outlined below:

1. Pre-menopause: The period before any menopausal symptoms appear.
2. Perimenopause: The phase where menopausal symptoms arise due to hormonal changes, but menstrual periods still occur, though they may vary in nature or frequency.
3. Menopause: Defined by the absence of menstrual periods for 12 consecutive months.
4. Post-menopause: The period following the 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period.

Each individual's experience will vary, including the age at which they go through each stage. The average age for menopause is 51, and symptoms can begin up to 10 years before menstruation stops. However, this timeline is not the same for everyone.

Luckily, menopause is being talked about a lot more and there is support out there to help you navigate this time in your life. If you need any help, don’t hesitate to drop me a DM.

I’m at the gym at 7am because I’m trying to build a new habit. I always thought I would struggle with morning sessions as I didn’t have a full day of food behind me, but it’s easier than I thought it would be to get out of bed, have a banana and crack on.
