I wish to revive filigree, to remind the world of the intricate beauty within its art.

So back in December I decided that I wanted to make a mini lamp. Back when I made the filigree ball I thought how just one half of it looks like a lamp shade and so I have wanted to Mack one since but I decided that after I finished the commissions I was working on I would do something fun and make this lamp. It did not turn out the best but I did not try to make it perfect. Lol it is special and has character. I am really proud of myself for it and one day I will be making another one but better.

Have a great rest of your day!

This octopus was in the works since last November. I was trying to figure out how I wanted it to look and so I ended up finishing the other octopus first. I am really happy how he turned out. This guy ended up being a Valentine’s Day gift for a friend from her family.

Another pair of earrings a little different from what I normally do. These earrings are designed for the pieces to face outward to the side rather then facing forward. It was fun to make something a little different. This piece is also if you would like to purchase it.

This is another one of those pieces that did not really turn out the way you wanted it to from the plan but you love the way it turned out instead. The tapered top was not in the plan for this but when it happened and I rolled with it I truly love the way it turned out. Now can I do it again but intentionally this time I guess we will see. This piece is also if you would like to purchase it.

This pendant is one of those happy accidents. I was aiming to make something slightly different but it turned out like this. I use a lot of swirls in my work and so I am really interested in Fibonacci’s spiral. So when I finished this piece and noticed it looked the same it made me really happy. Even more happy to know this piece went to a lovely lady from

This is my third ever filigree ring!!! I have never tried something like this before so it was definitely a learning curve and next time I will do things a bit differently but I am so happy with the way it turned out and I hope you do too. If you are interested in this ring it is in the hands of the lovely ladies at and is on their website if you want to pick it up for Valentine’s Day or just because.

I hope you are all doing well.

This is a piece I made a while ago now but along with a few other pieces I took down to today.

I am not a very boastful person but last year I had connected with their lovely staff and now have some of my pieces in their store along with so many other amazing creators. I am so grateful to work with them and would love for you to check out their store. I will be posting the other pieces I sent down with this one over the next little while.

I am terrible at posting but I made this guy before Christmas for a lovely lady to give to their grand-daughter for Christmas. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and that the new year will treat them well.

I have fallen in love with making animals and will not stop anytime soon. This is not my only octopus either as there will be another one coming in the new year so keep an eye out. There are more animals in the works in the future.

Do you like simple jewellery or intricate pieces?

This little pendant was a custom piece for a family friend. I was so happy to make this for them as they are like family to me and so helping with their holiday season was really special to me. (You know who you are 🥰)

Just a little M for special girl.

Ps. Look I can still make non filigree pieces lol

I don’t think I have ever done one of these before. So to celebrate hitting 400 followers on Instagram I am going to do a

So hello 👋 my name is Makayla.
I started making jewellery back in high school. I took the jewellery making course from grade 9-12. I decided that was not enough learning and I am so greatful that I did because the people I met at Georgian college are like family now. And we can’t forget that those lovely people introduced me to filigree. (You can blame them)

-Other then making jewellery I love to read. You can usually catch me with a book in hand or one near by always.
-My favourite colour is yellow.
-I will live in a tiny house one day watch me!
-And I live with a dog, a cat (basically mine at this point), and 7 fish
-and I have been to India

Have a great rest of your day and thank you again for your support! It means a lot.

Ps. The photo is me drawing down wire in school to make my filigree wire. School was finished and that is how I spent my last 4 days before graduation lol

What does this look like to you?

I originally made it to be Thor’s hammer (I believe it has a name but I can’t remember) but by the time it was finished it also kinda looks like an anchor. What do you think?

I wanted to make something a little outside my comfort zone and it was challenging but really fun to make I want to make more pieces like this in the future.

This one is special.
I made this piece for my mom. Dragonflies have meant a lot to my mom and I for years now and this past year has been really hard on her so for Christmas/ her birthday I made her this dragonfly.

She wanted a crystal and I thought it would be cute to have the legs hug it. It was fun to make something on a bigger scale and more 3-D. I hope to make more larger scale things like this in the future. Canoe here we come lol (if you know you know)

My lovely friend the model for this photo.

Ear threads have a tendency to slowly fall forward from the weight of the charm. If you have two piercings you can pull the back of the chain through the back of the second hole to make sure that they don’t fall out.

My sister is also known to take the chain back around to the front of the lobe and thread the chain back through the hole to secure it in place as well.

If you have any other idea let me know so I can share. I love how breathable the chains are and comfortable they are.

Do you ever make something and by the end it came out different?

So when I started making this pendant it was going to be a moon. And then maybe do a sun next or some stars. (Let me know if you would like to see those if you are interested) When I went to put on the bails it turned into a banner/ pendant/ flag pendant and I want to make more just have to come up with the different shapes.

What is your favourite animal?

Mine hands down is a polar bear (or a ladybug). Anyone who knows me even a little knows how obsessed I am. Lol I have been know to cry when talking about them.

I made a polar bear or ladybug something every year of college I think if not both. But in third year I did not have time to make a filigree polar bear in my contract due to my health. I fixed that though this past summer when I made this guy.

This is the only piece I have made that has a non super simple obvious name.
Drum roll please..........

Say hello to Gerald!
Don’t ask me why but that is his name and I hope that who ever owns this one day will keep his name. I think it suits him. Lol. (If you did not know I like to name almost everything so this is not out of my ordinary)

This is Gerald’s debut on the internet so I hope you treat him well 😊

I finally did it!!!!

After a lot of back and forth, asking friends and other artists I finally decided!!!! I have my own torch now!!!!

I was sharing an atmospheric-acetylene torch with my aunt for the past year. As that was her set up when I moved here and started sharing her studio with her.

I ending up picking the little smith torch with an oxy-propane set up. I used it last night for the first time and LOVE IT! Soldering filigree has never been easier. I will show videos later but just have to share. It was so worth the investment for me!!! Ps. We also moved the studio around! It was a good weekend!

Flat Lay!

My ocd really likes lineing things up and spacing things out evenly so it was really satisfying to setup this photo.

These are everything I use while making my filigree pieces. The filigree wire as well as the two sizes of frame wire. My calipers, dividers, ring clamp, square needle file, saw, tweezers, solder snips, and the filigree solder from @ . I could not fit in the finishing tools so as well as sand paper, rubber wheels, and polishing compound.

Not a whole lot of tools but they get the job done. OH GOODNESS we can’t forget about the two German pliers that are like extensions of my hands by now. So not everything but you get the gist.

Just a satisfying photo for you all 😊

This pendant ended up being a birthday gift.

A client of mine wanted to get their wife a pendant with their birth stones as well as their kids. So this family pendant has Citrine, Alexandrite, pink Tourmaline, and Moissanite to represent all 4 of them.

I am so glad that they loved the way it turned out. I love being able to make something special for someone.

Do you ever make something and then half way through want to stop working because you like the way they look?

Sometimes that happens when I finish the frames for my pieces. They turn out cool and “if I just stopped now it would be fine” runs through my head 😂

But then sometimes you make something and just give up half way. The one pendant in this batch soldered weird and I don’t think I can fix other then starting over. But not all designs turn out the way you picture them in your head.

24/11/2020

Look I can do more then just filigree!

This ring is a custom order for a client/ family friend of mine. He wanted a signet ring with B.C. jade. A graduate from NIC’s jewellery program carved the stone for me. He did a great job. It is always nice to collaborate with another artist.

How do you come up with names for your pieces?

I am really original with mine.... this one, drum roll please

Boxes pendant.

Lol I am just not good with naming things. I will stick with making them.

This piece has a perfect spot for a tube set stone if someone wants it. I have been liking the negative space in my pieces lately and playing with where to add it.

Have you ever been so proud of yourself as you make something?

That is this piece for me! I had never made a 3-D filigree piece before. There were definitely struggles throughout the process and it is by no means perfect but even now every time I look at it. The ball is on a wire through the centre so it will spin.

I made a diamond.

Does anyone really know how to cation their stuff all the time. Please forgive me lol. I hope you like the photo 😬 come back Monday and I will try again.

A little bit of work that I was doing the other day.

Packing the cells for these leaf earrings I showed earlier.

Mini lesson on some terms.
-The frames of a filigree piece are the thicker wires.
-The cells are the spaces between those frame wires where you place the filigree wire into.
-And packing is the act of placing the filigree wires into the cells.

These terms can be called different things depending on who/ where you learn by these are what I call them.

What to do if you have stretched ears?

My lovely aunt has stretched her ears but still like to wear “normal” earrings. For her I made this pair like I normally would but instead of attaching the ear threads or adding a normal Shepard’s hook I left them with the jump ring on top so that she could add them to a pair of hoops. She then puts the hoops through her stretched ears without having to only buy gauges. It opens up her options.

Do you have stretched ears and want to try? I always give the option to have different “hook” options you just have to ask to change out the threads.

Who likes earrings?

My favourite are ear threads. Ear threads are when there is no post or hook it is just a chain that goes through your ear. It sounds scary but they are so much lighter and they let your piercing breath as air can pass through the links of the chain.

You are not supposed to sleep in your jewellery because it wears it out and can cause it to break or wear down faster. As a jeweller knowing this and because I only take my earrings out to shower or swimming really I check them on a regular basis. They are super comfortable and sometimes I forget I am wearing them. WARNING because there is not a backing on these they can fall out or be pulled out so be careful of what you are doing when wearing them.

Cute simple earring with a bit of flare.
