Shot at Life KU
Shot@Life KU engages in political advocacy and fundraising to ensure that no more children die from vaccine preventable diseases.
Autism is often diagnosed around 18-24 months of age, which is the same age that most children receive many key immunizations. Some concerned parents may interpret this to mean that vaccines are responsible for autism, but where is the evidence to defend this? Studies show that children who get vaccinated are no more likely to have autism; likewise, children with autism are no more likely to have been vaccinated.
In fact, evidence shows that autism likely develops in utero. There have been 99 genes linked to autism, and even though diagnosis occurs in young toddlers, brain scans of six-month-olds (who have not yet been vaccinated) can successfully predict whether or not the child will be autistic. Even the original study that kick-started the anti-vax movement was debunked.
Thank you SO MUCH to Dr. Peter Hotez for speaking about the importance of vaccines!
