Winter upgrades has officially started at the camp. Got the motor pulled to refresh and rebuild our PRC cylinder heads and the transmission out to hopefully get it sent to a new home. Once it’s sold it’ll be time to call DNJ components and have them build us a nice 400 transmission that’ll take everything we throw at it. Changing the rear end gears to a lower gear to help gain some MPH out the back. If you want it, you gotta work for it

After a crap race season wasting all summer working on the car these 2 pictures are what it’s all about for me. Watching Kaleb Winfrey make passes in his car makes it all worth while. All the troubles have really ate at me because I hate to fail. But it is a learning process for both of us building, maintaining, and driving a car of this caliber. But we are very lucky to have a lot of great people giving advice and helping out when they can. I almost have the motor and transmission out of the car to make some changes this winter because failure is not an option. Kaleb is very passionate about racing and I will do all I can to support him in this.

And the bad luck continued. Came out for round 2 of qualifying with a hotter tune, took the launch re**rd out of the hit, commanded an extra few pounds of boost at the launch and added 5 pounds up top. Spun out of the hole, and these stock heads decided 41 pounds of boost was too much and let go blowing the freeze plug out of the back. Luckily we didn’t water the track down. With the way this year has gone for us, we’re calling it a year. We’ve made 9 passes this entire year and had issues the entire season. We’ve had the motor out once, the transmission twice, swapped heads, and swapped back and forth from turbo to turbo. It’s time to go back to the drawing board. Stay tuned.

5.28 at 130mph. The only clean pass we managed to make the whole weekend.

22/09/2023

After what feels like forever, we are finally on the road to Ozark Raceway Park for Street Machine Nationals. Hoping to go out and have an awesome time, but most importantly, some great father/son time

20/09/2023

After a long 2 months including pulling the transmission 2 times and the motor once, looks like we finally may be starting to get the new setup working. Thanks to Wes Choate with Sho-Me Speed for tons of help, advice, and keeping us headed in the right direction. With any luck with the weather this weekend we will be headed to orp for the street machine shootout. Even though we have no real testing. There will be 2 rounds of qualifying Friday night 1 round Saturday before eliminations. Expectations aren’t real high other than having some much needed fun with the car and great father-son time.

28/08/2023

Finally made some good headway with the car! Managed to cut spool time down from 13-14 seconds, to 6 seconds. And people say you need nitrous to spool a big turbo on a small motor. You just need all the patience and a lot of free time. We decided to put our old cylinder heads on to get us back up and going to try and finish out the last two shootouts of the year. We are now Street Machines bound at Ozark Raceway Park September 22nd and 23rd.

13/08/2023

Definitely not where we want to be mid august. Pulled the motor to tear it down and possibly swap to our old motor and found we bent the exhaust valves. Build a race car they said, it’ll be fun they said.

Photos from WTRacing's post 05/08/2023

Not exactly where we want to be at the moment. May look like a step backwards, but hopefull it’s a step forward. Had a pretty severe wastegate leak, and currently having the the transmission fight us by over-pressuring the converter and fighting us to spool. The dump valve we have on the car wasn’t moving enough fluid so we’ve ordered a much larger one to hopefully fix the problem.

27/07/2023

It’s been over a month since you last heard from us. The shootout didn’t workout in our favor. Bumped through the prestage, late reaction, car made 61 pounds of boost and shut off since the boost safety is set at 50 pounds. Also noticed we were struggling to spool the 88 at the track so we sent the converter off to get it restalled. After a short wait PTC got it back in my hands and ready to install. We’ve got the 94 back on hoping to make something work now.

24/06/2023

After 2 rounds of qualifying last night with 9 cars we are currently #4 in our class with a 5.38 at 130mph. That was just a starting point on the tune for the first time out with the old turbo on the new motor. We still have room to turn it up. 2 more qualifying rounds to go before eliminations start. And probably more cars to enter today.

21/06/2023

We ended up pulling the 94/113 turbo off and going back to the 88/103. The 94 just kept fighting us to get it on the chip. It was just all over the place with spool time and you can’t race if it won’t consistently spool. So the 88 is on and we can make as much boost as we want on the trans brake. We will be headed out to Ozark Raceway Park Friday night for the first 2 rounds of qualifying and back at it Saturday for the final 2 qualifying rounds and elimination’s. Looks to be a hot weekend but should be some good racing.

17/06/2023

We’ve been fairly quiet since JJ’s race so we figured it was time for some updates. We had full intentions to race at the last shootout race in limited 275. Pulled the nitrous kit off since dual power adders weren’t allowed and tried to get the motor to spool. With small cubic inch motors and large frame turbos, they don’t always work out the best. We went ahead and installed our 6 inch intercooler and upgraded to 4 inch charge pipe and added a dump valve in the transmission to try and help spool the turbo. Still running into the same issues. As this post is being typed we are finishing up the changes that will allow us to run our old 88/103 turbo on this current set up and see if it’s the new engine’s fault or if it solves the problem. It’s always something with race cars.

After a quick shoe swap, and a neck restraint upgrade to a HANS device, we are set up to take on the Dwight Parker Memorial Shootout at Ozark Raceway Park this weekend, taking a hard stab at limited 275 and hoping to go a few rounds.

Forgot to mention what I believe was the best thing from Friday. Sitting in the pit after the wild first pass testing. We had a young man that was probably around 14 and his mother came and found us. He was telling us how he thought Kaleb’s driving was so awesome on that pass. He was really looking the car over when Kaleb asked him if he wanted to sit in the car. He got very excited and said heck yeah. We told him how to get to get in around the roll cage and Kaleb explained to him a few things inside the car. We didn’t think to get a picture with him but I’m sure the way him and his mother acted we made the weekend for him. We know our car isn’t the fastest but at any event even test and tune nights we will go out of our way to bring some excitement to any kids.

A few videos from Friday testing and the first round of big tire. The big tire race precious pulled both drivers in so fast we couldn’t get spooled up so it was just a slow drive down track. We also have some in car GoPro footage this year thanks to our good friend Danny Lewis. Hopefully with some time we can figure out how to do some cool stuff with them. We forgot about the GoPros the first pass where the car got loose. But have footage from the second test pass which was a full pass and the third pass the car moved left and the run was aborted.

Here’s the video of the close call, this was sent to us by a spectator, apologies for the language. At the same time, can’t say we really blame them

13/05/2023

Car got a little loose on the big end of the track. Kaleb drove the crap out of it and managed to keep it off the wall. We have a video of the whole pass from a spectator that came over and gave it to us. This picture is just a clip from my video I didn’t get the whole thing trying to watch him

We got a couple of things to do to the car this week. And get everything loaded up and ready to roll out Friday morning. This Friday and Saturday from Memphis Street Outlaws JJ Da Boss arm drop no prep. 2 full days of racing. We are testing Friday afternoon and entering the big tire race on small tires Friday night just for a little more data. Then we are testing Saturday afternoon again and entering the small tire race Saturday night. If you like drag racing come out and support us and everyone racing it will be a huge event! Stop by and see us if you are there.

The boys at WTRacing have been hard at work preparing for JJ’s Arm Drop these past few weeks. Stockpiling fuel, plumbing the nitrous kit to help spool the turbo, and changing out the map sensor to run more boost at the top end of the track. We are working on getting some stickers ready. It’s gonna be one awesome show, and we hope to see some of you out there!

Help with spooling the turbo has arrived!

20/04/2023

Just a little update. We haven’t been able to do much with the car since it was on the dyno. It has been fighting us not wanting to build boost on the trans brake. Leaving the line with no boost is like going for a Sunday drive. Small cubic inch motor with a big cam and big turbo for max effort just doesn’t have enough low end power to spool. But help is on the way! Look for updates later this week.

Also want to say a big thank you to Brent Girard with BBB Farms on stepping up and sponsoring us this year! Thank you for stepping up! If you are in need of any hay at any time hit him up! Thank you again!!

Now that the dust is settling from yesterday, I want to give a huge thank you to a long time friend of ours. Ethan Nelson and Mike Bridenstine with Creedmoor Heating and Cooling has stepped up and offered to sponsor us for the 2023 season! They are 2 awesome guys who enjoy what they do for work. If you’re needing any sort of HVAC work, give these boys a call! Thank you guys so much for the sponsorship!!

What a day just got home from the dyno session. We ran out of fuel pump at 30lbs of boost making 1135 hp to the tire. We worked all afternoon getting a 3rd Walbro 525 Hecate pump installed. And of course when you try to hurry everything that can go wrong does. We finally got it in and wired and plumbed up. And got back to turning the power up. We decided to call it after the next pull. We are running into the intercooler being a restriction. It currently has a 4” core cooler in it and we need to upgrade to a 6” core so it will be more efficient. Ended up at 1178 hp to the tire. After we make that change we should be able to turn it up more.

Got the car loaded up and ready to head to Dyaled in Performance in the morning to have Bo Dyal work his magic and see how much horsepower the new motor makes

28/03/2023

Got the rest of the parts for the new motor today. We got it together this evening and it fired right up with no issues. Looks like hopefully Friday we will be taking it to Marshfield to Dyaled in Performance for some dyno tuning.

23/03/2023

Been a while since we’ve posted a large update so here we go. Starting to make some good leaps and bounds with the new motor. Half inch head studs are installed. PRC heads are torqued, and the cam and rotating assembly is in. We’ve got 2 small parts left to order then starts the mad dash to fire it off, get to Dyaled in Performance to let Bo work his magic, and try and get some test passes in before the Pour Your Own No Prep race April 7-8th. Stay tuned

Tear down day for the Mustang. Pulling the motor and turbo to make room for the new stuff. The pictures is the old 88/103 turbo next to the 94/113 turbo.

Photos from WTRacing's post 15/03/2023

Finally after a long 2 month wait we received the rotating assembly for the new motor today. Forged Callies CCW crankshaft, forged Callies H beam rods, Diamond pistons and all ACL race series bearings. Now comes the tedious process of measuring all bearing clearance and gapping the new piston rings. Then installing the custom ground Cam Motion camshaft Johnson lifters and Yella Terra rocker arms. With any luck by the end of the weekend or early next week we can have the new motor all buttoned up. Then we will have to see what all has to change on the turbo piping to install the new 94/113mm triple ball bearing turbo. Hopefully in a couple of weeks we will be ready to head to Dyaled In Performance for a killer Bo Dyal tune.

Starting to get some new parts in for this year. Our set of Keizer double beadlock wheels just made it in today and just a few days ago our set of PRC cylinder heads made it in. Just waiting on the bottom end for the new motor to come in.
