We need to call American breakfast what it often is: dessert 14/07/2017

Not defending Chobani here but this is exactly what's wrong when food is reduced to a set of numbers. The nutritional judgments made are often grossly misrepresented because the hyper-focus on a sliver of the whole nutritional picture.

We need to call American breakfast what it often is: dessert Japan has a better way.

Not so fun fact: up to 40% of our food is thrown away after it's harvested.

Food waste is an ugly part of the American culture, and I'm working on adding less to the ugliness. Make your own list and let's chip away at that 40% together!

Rich People Exercise, Poor People Take Diet Pills 05/07/2017

Having poor health have much more to do with the external sources of influence rather than lack of willpower.

"It's hard to exercise when you live in an unsafe neighborhood. Stress leads to emotional eating. You can't plan for gym time when you only know your work schedule three days in advance."

Rich People Exercise, Poor People Take Diet Pills One reason the underprivileged face an obesity crisis is that they rely on ineffective weight-loss strategies. In part, this is because economic uncertainty makes it harder to plan for workouts and healthy meals.

PSA: Being Healthy Is NOT a Contest 11/06/2017

"I've been thinking a lot lately about what it means to be healthy — if it's a word I qualify for, or a word I even aspire to. I think it's a word that is generally more useful than things like "normal," in the sense that it allows for varying definitions based on goals and needs, but it also feels like an increasingly loaded word, full of judgment and constantly moving goalposts."

PSA: Being Healthy Is NOT a Contest "I don't ever want to treat my body as something to be won or lost, or feel more concerned with the presentation of my lifestyle than the actual living of it."

My Food Struggle In Pictures: When What I Ate Made Me 'Good' Or 'Bad' 08/05/2017

This!! A thousand 👍! Will you join me in challenging the black and white, and damaging, way our culture tends to talk about food?

"Food should not be a constant tug-of-war between denial and blame but a normal, positive part of life."

My Food Struggle In Pictures: When What I Ate Made Me 'Good' Or 'Bad' For the writer and her sister, the family's tendency to talk about food choices in moral terms triggered an unhealthy obsession with eating and a skewed sense of self-worth.

What's up with eggs from vegetarian hens? 01/12/2016

Chickens are omnivores. A vegetarian diet is actually going against what nature intended.

"The phrase "vegetarian-fed" alone would not tell you if the hens are cage-free or have outdoor access, which are features consumers care about most."

What's up with eggs from vegetarian hens? Chickens aren't vegetarians. But there's a market for eggs from vegetarian-fed hens.
