Exactly one year ago today, I was reaching one of the deepest points of my life. I was permanently losing hearing in one of my ears, and my right hand had stopped moving and lay in a brace.
❥
As a professional pianist, this meant that I had to stop making music for a long time. I woke up every morning with a deep sense of loss and sadness that felt like a knife in my heart, that would last forever.
❥
With the help of the rehabilitation program, in a team of physical therapists, a doctor and a psychologist, I was up for a challenge— physically and emotionally.
❥
I had to face my inner pain— to feel it deep in my heart, and to experience it fully, instead of trying to shove it away, if I wanted to process these emotions.
❥
I was so thankful for my psychologist who helped me through the process— to face the sea of resentment, anger and regret, and a deep sadness. I had to rely on a lot of grace and love— from myself and from others.
❥
But slowly, but surely, the pain processed itself and more of "me" began to emerge. Day by day, I monitored my emotional level. And one day, a year later, I am waking up so much stronger, both physically and emotionally. My pain is gone, and my health is back. Full of life, gratitude, and love for the life, a gift that I have to live.

What seemed once a million years away last year, is actually today. I no longer take things for granted. The fact that I can breathe, ride on my bicycle, give people I love a hug, still hear music (with hearing aids), do yoga, eat what I love, enjoy life to the fullest... I now know, that any of these can disappear, with a snap of a finger.

Ironically, I'm even grateful for the pain that happened in my life— because it shaped me for who I am today.
❥
Now I make it a discipline and a practice to live every day with gratitude. I've also become relentless about my self-care routine. If regular healthy habits for your mind and body can prevent the years I've spent in rehabilitation, I believe it's worth it. Every single day is a gift, and I intend to live it to its fullest!

When I was a child, I was extremely shy. I loved playing the piano, but I did NOT like standing on stage, nor being the center of attention. My younger self would have felt uncomfortable walking around the city of Utrecht in a photoshoot, with everyone looking at you.

But as I grew as a stage performer and went through many live performances, it became a natural part of me to stand in front of people.

I can remember so many moments, sitting back stage, crying my eyes out, since I felt like I failed on the stage. But I learned that if we keep our own self-criticizing words stop us from being seen just as we are, we will never be able to fully be who we're born on this Earth to be.

As entrepreneurs, and as women, if we hide ourselves under a blanket, how could we ever share our values to bless others?

Matthew 6 says, "You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven."

When I decided to enroll in the coaching academy 3 years ago, I had to trust my deepest intuitions. I'd done my extensive research, but there is always a leap of faith when you decide to commit to something.

Being a high achiever and a planner, I'd always tread my path carefully. I'd mull over my decisions, and make sure things turn out "well". However, I've learned that my "analytical" mind is not always the best directive when it comes to moving forward in life. The mind can get clouded by fearful thoughts— whether of rejection or of failure. It can even lead to "paralysis by analysis", stopping you from making forward steps toward your goals.

What I did, was to tune into what my deepest inner voice was telling me. By quieting my analytical chatting mind, I decided to trust its lead, and took a leap forward— to learn to trust, instead of being stopped by fear.

The fear of the unknown is so real. But by focusing on our inner compass and direction, we can move forward toward our dreams that we once thought are not possible.

Even if you don't see what's ahead, and your dreams feel "too big" to reach, TODAY is the most powerful resource and opportunity that you have right now.

Yess! Two and a half years after graduating from my coaching academy, my business is now registered at the Chamber of Commerce! I'm one step closer to my dream of empowering others to flourish in their true worth and confidence in God!

While spending half of my waking hours in rehabilitation and at the hospital, I could only imagine of the day when I'll be able to stand confidently on my own feet again, and move forward with my dreams.

I used to feel that this was a setback —but now I know, that God was setting me up and preparing me for something even greater. My hand and my hearing may have been taken away for a while, but He gave me the confidence to follow my inner compass, and to trust Him in whatever comes my way.

And today, that day is here. I want to encourage you, even if your dreams seem far, far away, keep holding onto the hope in God. He already holds your wildest, craziest dreams in His hands. And when you fall, He's always got your back. And I know that He has something incredible planned for your life.
