If you had an appointment with us last week, you may have noticed some funny hats, Hawaiian shirts, and Disney characters in the office! We had a ton of fun during Summer Spirit week, enjoy some of the sights from our offices!

Office Manager Valorie Nance has been with the Riccobene team for almost 17yrs! Valorie said her dad always said “whatever job you choose to do, be the best at it.” She certainly lives out his advice and we have been so fortunate to work beside her for so many years!
Valorie remembers when she was first interviewed by Dr. Riccobene in 2005. "He asked me if I could fill the schedule, and he trusted me on my word and hired me. His confidence and trust in me over the years, has made me the manager I am today. He has taught me over the years to treat people how you want to be treated. Happy staff, happy patients, happy work environment. Dr. Riccobene was opening his 3rd office when I started with him. To see some of the growth, changes , and challenges that he’s gone through in his life as a business owner over the years all while never changing his philosophy….”always do what’s best for the patient." Lorri Detrick joined the Riccobene team last Fall as Chief Operations Officer. Lorri leads by example and has a strong focus on building relationships with everyone in the organization and at every Riccobene and Brush & Floss office! She normally arrives at the office before 6a every day. She loves those first 2-3hrs she spends quietly working on important projects and initiatives before it's 'off to the races' with daily meetings and check-ins.
When asked about the most rewarding part of her job, Lorri said, "It's developing relationships. Throughout my career, the foundation of my roles has been to develop strong relationships with people throughout the organizations where I’ve worked. It takes time and commitment to build good relationships in which people can trust each other. But without this investment, and without these relationships, work can feel meaningless. I have found that when I genuinely care about those I work with and for, I do my job better and experience more fulfillment at work."

Candice Messer's warm personality, sense of humor, helpful spirit, and 'whatever it takes' attitude make her a joy to work with! Candice has been with Riccobene for over 11yrs and currently serves as a Regional Manager.
In the true spirit of supporting, empowering, and encouraging the other people we work with, Candice says Brooke Gerrell(Director of Operations) has had such a positive influence on her career. "We have worked together for many years and I have to say that she has helped me grow so much in my career. Her positive outlook and support has and continues to help me through each day."
Antoinette Finizio, our Chief Administrative Officer, has made a tremendous impact in building and mentoring teams across our organization. Her influence can be felt all the way through the excellent patient experience we deliver.
Antoinette's favorite memory at Riccobene is the 'Smiles on Us' event we held last March in Wilmington. "Our team on the Coast
volunteered to see 144 patients over 6 hours in our Monkey Junction office. We gave away $50,000 in free dentistry! It was incredibly rewarding to give back to the community we serve and to feel the incredibly positive energy amongst the team when they felt the reward of their efforts. GREATEST TEAMWORK ever!"

Lynn Harrison has been with Dr. Riccobene since his very first office in Selma, NC and still serves as the office manager there today! She has helped us change thousands of patients' lives and create lasting memories over the past 21yrs. Lynn is a true gift to our team.
Whitney Suiter is our smiling and bubbly Director of Community Outreach. She is the link between our future patients, the communities we serve, and our offices. Whitney has done so much for the Riccobene team and has held several different roles during her 6 years with us.
Whitney has a lot of great memories at Riccobene but this one stuck out to her in particular. "I’m always moved by the community events where we are able to give back to those who may not have routine dental care options. At our first-ever Smiles on Us event (a day of charitable dentistry), Dr. Riccobene provided care alongside the doctors and staff at our Goldsboro location. We had one patient in particular who was pregnant and in severe pain with a tooth needing extraction. The patient shared how she had been denied care from several others due to her pregnancy but Dr. Riccobene recognized the big picture of how this situation was
compromising her overall health and could impact the baby as well. He treated the patient that day (with proper clearance from her medical provider) and his commitment to ensure her health still resonates with me.

If there is anyone who can walk in and light up a room, it's Heba! Her energetic, happy, and genuine personality suits her wonderfully as our Chief of Staff and VP of HR.
Heba says her father has made the biggest impact on her professional career. "He is someone that sacrificed his life to come to the US as we are first-generation immigrants. His work ethic of doing what is needed to take care of his family and progress through the faculty ranks at the university and National Institute of Health is inspiring."

In addition to celebrating the Women of Riccobene, we're also celebrating and supporting the women in our communities! Last week we sponsored(and ran in) the WILMA 5k Dash & Health Fest.
This was an all women's event benefiting breast health and education initiatives. We had an incredible time meeting everyone who attended...especially the future Dentist or Orthodontist who stopped by our booth!

Here's Dr. Parker's advice for a young woman just starting her career: "With hard work, discipline, and determination, you can achieve your goals. It’s important not to compare yourself and your journey to others. Everyone's path will be different. I think it’s important to have a vision of what you want your future to look like regarding your career and family. Dentistry is a great profession for women as you can be full time or part time, own your own practice or work as an associate."

Jenny Gurganus, one of our wonderful Regional Managers, always has a smile on her face!
Jenny says her son Gaines is by far her biggest motivation. He's the reason she doesn't ever lose sight of her goals and never gives up!
Dr. Irina Jorgenson has been with the Riccobene team for almost 12yrs and is currently serving as the Clinical Director of our Garner, NC office.
When asked about her favorite memories over the years, Dr. Jorgenson said, "It is hard to choose, really, because there have been so many. From a little girl telling me that she does “not need laughing gas because she is not afraid anymore to be at the dentist”, to the patient who progressed from not being able to sit in the dental chair to making jokes during dental visits to a patient that is finally able to confidently smile and tell me that “eating is pain-free!” Thank you, Dr. Jorgenson, your work has helped change many lives and we all love working alongside you!

One way everyone can help preserve our Earth's resources is by turning off the water while brushing. By leaving the water running, the avg. person wastes ~4 GALLONS of water every time they brush! Multiply that by all the people in your house...that's a lot of water wasted!

It's Oral Cancer Awareness Month, a disease over 54,000+ Americans will be diagnosed with this year. The key to all cancer treatment is early detection, but 4 in 5 people don't even know the symptoms! Our team is trained to detect oral cancer and does so at each biannual visit.
Oral and mouth cancer often reveals itself as a sore or abscess.
These are other common symptoms:
- A change in the fit of your dentures
- Chronic sore throat
- Lost or sudden raspy voice
- Swollen areas in your mouth
- Sores in your mouth or throat that do not heal
- Red or white patches inside your mouth
- Unexplained bleeding
