What does a checkpoint look like and where is it located?
The only checkpoint on the route is in the east of Slovakia in the village of Beňatina. At the checkpoint you can sleep comfortably, have a meal, have a beer together and you can continue on to the next adventure towards Hungary and Romania.

The difference between MTB bikepacking races in Europe and the USA.
Europe is more densely populated than the USA with a lack of vast wilderness areas. Most MTB bikepacking races in Europe could be characterized as MTB Gravel Races. There are a few exceptions in Europe where you can feel like you're in the wilderness, or or .However, you won't find anything similar to the Colorado Trail Race or Arizona Trail Race. Riders in Europe are not accustomed to riding long distances in challenging terrain. In some western European countries, restrictions on movement are so strong that you won't even get into the wilderness on singletrack unless it's an official cycling route. For experiences, tougher terrain, and a sense of wilderness, we have the Nordic countries or Eastern Europe or Balkans. When optimizing the route for CMR , we were looking for the ideal terrain for a long-distance route in the wilderness. Despite a 300km detour through Ukraine on cycling routes through Hungary due to the war, we can say that CMR is the longest MTB bikepacking race in the wilder parts of European nature. It's possible that CMR in this form will only take place in 2024.

My favorite part of the CMR is the wild ridge between the spa town Borsec and Lacul Rosu lake. Unforested ridges can be seen anywhere in Europe, but forested ridges teeming with wild animals, from bears to wolves and big deers, can only be found in one of the last European wilderness areas, the Carpathians.

A bikepacking race spanning 1900km through Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania, guiding you through fascinating and wild parts of the Carpathian arc. This is an MTB bikepacking race. Experience adventures in one of the last wild areas in Europe.
