Welcome to season 2024/25!

First and foremost, we would like to farewell Lisa Armstrong-Rowe after 5 years of service to this competition with a heartfelt thank you. Lisa can now enjoy her weekends watching cricket without the phone ringing constantly!

We welcome Miki Monahan as the new chair of the BWCC. Miki brings a player's perspective to the role, and we look forward to the competition continuing to flourish under her guidance.

We can announce the season dates for the competition, you can find them in the attachment to this post. There are a few things to highlight:
1. The season will start on the 20/10/24 for all grades for home and away matches
2. We encourage clubs to utilise the early weeks of October to schedule practice matches, so please reach out to other clubs
3. The no-play weekend for Melbourne Cup has been removed
4. No Friday night fixtures have been set by the committee, but we encourage clubs to communicate with their opposition if you would still like to play them this season
5. All finals are aligned this season
6. C and D grade will have two thirty over matches this season
7. The T20 playoff weekend will also incorporate the BWCC Christmas Gathering for charity (details to come). We encourage players from all clubs and grades to come along for this new event which we hope will be a positive social initiative into the future

There will be 8 teams in each grade this season based on ladder positions from last season. Grades to be announced shortly.

Please affiliate your teams as 1st XI, 2nd XI etc. rather than specifying grade.

Affiliations are due by 5pm on the 31/8/24. Please touch base if you may require a little extra time to confirm player numbers. Affiliation fees will remain $100 per team this season.

If your club contacts have changed, please let us know ASAP so we can update our contact list.

Western Vic Girls Cup Wrap - Final Day

u14s
It was so close but no prize for the u14s as they went down to Warnambool in a close Final Thursday afternoon.

After going down to the same team in the morning the Girls worked hard on a very slow Hamilton CC outfield to reach 9/63 off their allotted 20 overs. At the half way point the girls had done an amazing job with the ball to keep the score under 30 but a couple l***y blows by Warnambool batter's were just enough to see them chase our score down.

Evie Bounds and Ryder Zybel were our rocks in the final both reaching double figures and playing some great shots along the ground that would have typically reached the fence. With the ball Jorja Beach sent down an awesome spell of 1/10 off 4 overs while Ruby Curran found herself on a hatrick for the second time this week.

In the early game Eric Moloney was the star making 22no and taking 1/8

Game 5
Geelong 4cc83 lost to Warnambool 1/84
E Moloney 22no, R Zdybel 19, E McDonald 13
E Moloney 1/8

Final
Geelong 9cc63 lost to Warnambool 4/66
E Bounds 14 R Zdybel 12
R Curren 2/11 (2 ov), J Beach 1/10 (4 ov)

u16s
The 16s saved the best for last with a compressive win to finish off the carnival showcasing how much talent this group has.
With the ball Isla Hannah-Phillips leggies had Hamilton in a spin with 4/6 of 3 overs, Isla was well supported by Macy Lee 2/8, Elle Hauenstien 1/3 and Bella Taylor 1/4. With the Bat Holly Britt (28) and Alannah Brajkovic (25no) put together another 50+ partnership to see the the Girls home in 15 overs.

Game 5
Hamilton 9cc71 lost to Geelong 1/72 (15 overs)
I Hanna-Phillips 4/6, M Lee 2/8, E Hauenstien 1/3, A Taylor 1/4
H Britt 28, A Brajkovic 25 no

u18s
In a must win game the u18s ran into a red hot Warnambool side with loads of premier cricket experience. Bowling first the team did a fantastic job restricting the 'Bool' to 2/104 with Millie Chapman 0/12 (4 overs) and L Gummer 1/10 (4 overs) doing a fantastic job.

With the bat we just couldn't get going with the exception of Millie who tried her best to carry across the line with a brave 23no.

Game 5
Warnambool 4cc104 def Geelong 8cc51
L Gummer 1/10, J O'Donnell 1/21
M Chapman 23no

Players of the Week

u14s - Luca Bode - Barwon Heads CC
u16s - Alannah Brajkovic - North Geelong CC
u18s - Lauren Kelly - North Geelong CC

Thanks to generosity of junior girls parent and local Bat maker Issac Saunders this year we were able to present a new cricket bat to the Best player over the whole week as nominated by our coaches in u14s and u16s and Issac in the u18s.

And that's it for another very successful Junior Girls rep carnival. The Girls were fantastic throughout putting in some great performance on field but more importantly making new friends and having a great time off it.

As one of them said "we're making memories".

The carnival would not be possible without our volunteer coaches and scorers who not only looked after the games but also the Girls who stay at Monivae ,so a huge thank you to the following;
Aaron, Luke, & Lucy (u14s)
Lori, Dean & Rach (u16s)
Colin, Mike & Katie (u18s)
Also thank you to Kings Funerals who continue to sponsor the Girls League and allow us make carnivals like this affordable to all, Monivae College for accommodating us so very well again, Lloyd Ilett and the Hamilton District Cricket Association who do such a great job year in year out organising and hosting the carnival, all the parents who made the trip and supported all the Girls no only their own and lastly the Girls who are just a fantastic bunch of young people.

See you again next year.

Western Vic Girls Cup Wrap - Day 2

u14s
The u14s put in another superb bowling performance against Grampians followed by a tight win against Colac in the afternoon taking them to 4-0 and a guaranteed spot in tomorrow afternoons final.

These wins have really been a whole team performance with multiple wicket takers, runs scorers and great catches every game but Luca Bode's 3/4 and 23 not out against Colac deserves a special mention as it has seen the girls christen her "The Goat".

Other performances of note today include Ryder Zdybel and Gracie Whitford-Price passing 15 for the second day in a row, Erin Moloney, Elle McDonald grabbing two wicket each for next to nothing and Ruby Curran plucking a one handed screamer in gully.

Game 3
Geelong 4cc99 def Grampians 8cc37
R Zdybel 23no, A Nolan 10no
E Moloney 2/3, E McDonald 2/1, A O'Brien 1/4, J Beach 1/5

Game 4
Colac 5cc112 lost to Geelong 4/113 (19.3ov)
L Bode 3/4, E Bounds 1/10
L Bode 23no, E McDonald 10, G Whitford-Price 15no, E Moloney 14

u16s
Unfortunately the u16s clearly don't like morning game's going down in a tight one to Castlemaine before bouncing back to win a last ball thriller over Ballarat in the afternoon. Going into the last day the girls are 2/2 and need everything to go their way to make the final

With wickets a premium yesterday the fielding unit stepped it up today with three run outs supporting Georgia Brajkovic who grabbed another two fa. Batting wise Isla Hanna-Phillip's 37 against Ballarat was the difference and Radhika Goyal chipped in with a nice 20.

Game 3
Castlemaine 4cc59 def Geelong 8cc45
G Brajkovic 1/8, I Hanna-Phillips 1/4, I Bowen-Moller 1/4
R Goyal 20no

Game 4
Ballarat 4cc91 lost to Geelong 4/92 (20ov)
I Hanna-Phillips 1/13
A Brajkovic 12, I Hanna-Phillips 37, A Joyce 11no

u18s
The day started with a bye for the u18s followed by a hard fought win over Hamilton in the afternoon leaving the Girls 2/1. The equation is simple for the Girls, beat Warnambool in the morning and we make the final.

In todays game, with Hamilton sitting at 0/65 of 9 overs things were not looking great but the introduction of slow bowlers Tash Millard (4ov 2/12) and Peri Saunders (4ov 2/15) dragged us backing into it,

At 3/23 we were again behind the eight-ball before Loz Kelly (42no) and Nat Murphy (40no) combined for an unbeaten run a ball 79 run partnership.

Game 3
Bye

Game 4
Hamilton 5cc108 lost to Geelong 3/112 (17.3ov)
N Millard 2/12, P Saunders 2/15
N Murphy 40no, L Kelly 42no

*Photo - Jorja Beach is not only a great catcher of a cricket ball she also caught a parrot that had hurt its self when it flew into a window, after a little TLC from Jorja and the u14s the parrot made a full recovery.
