Women in Geospatial Breakfast and Workshop Registration Open
We have tickets now on sale for the Women in Geospatial breakfast. You don’t need to be a woman to come, and the venue we’re hoping to reserve is very close to the conference venue, so you have no excuse but to come along and support our wonderful women. https://ti.to/osgeo-oceania/foss4g-sotm-oceania-2024/with/women-in-geospatial-breakfast
and you can register for the workshops here: https://ti.to/osgeo-oceania/foss4g-sotm-oceania-2024-workshops
The program committee is working hard now to get the program together. We’ll have more information and a draft program ready soon.
For now, a quick reminder of our wonderful keynote presenters:
Brianna Pagan, from USA, who works at NASA
Lanieta Rokotuiwakaya, from Fiji, who works at GHD
Kate Fickas, from USA, who works at Esri
Andrea Jalandoni, from Australia, who works at Griffith University.
These four women represent diverse backgrounds, a range of focus areas in their professional lives and all are passionate about communities and open geospatial. We know they’ll bring some great ideas to our conference and we're grateful to them all for accepting our invitation.
Image below is Lani speaking at last year's Women in Geospatial Breakfast in Auckland.
The OSGeo Oceania board wish all OpenStreetMappers a very happy twentieth birthday of openstreetmap.org and from humble beginnings of the first street being mapped*, it has grown and now has over ten million editors! You can read more about the history at https://birthday20.openstreetmap.org/ and if you are not an editor, perhaps checkout your area to see if it needs improving. Party like it's 2004 OSMers!

Results of Community Vote for our 2024 Conference Logo
So the votes are in and we have a winner! The logo below which was designed by Cholena Smart from Perth in Western Australia and received the most votes from you all. Thank you to all those who took the time to submit a logo, it was pretty close in the end, but there can only be one winner.
You will see the logo (and several variants) appearing now in communications as the conference in Hobart, Tasmania approaches. It will help us inform our style and we feel it really helps us represent our Oceania community of islands here in the South Pacific.

Dear Oceania open geospatial community,
We (the OSGeo Oceania Board) are revitalising the Communications Working Group (the "CWG"), and we need several volunteers to join us and help with tasks like:
..providing technical support..writing, proofreading, and delivering content..managing our web, social media, instant messaging, and other channels..guiding strategy and developing policy
Why is this important?
OSGeo Oceania's purpose is to support the regional open geospatial community. We're a big beautiful community spread across a huge geography, so communication is absolutely critical to delivering this mission! To stay connected, we need to communicate with each other, and OSGeo Oceania can play a role in this. By joining the CWG, you will have the opportunity to make a direct impact and drive engagement across Oceania, helping us all stay connected.
OK, I'm interested, what do I do?
Great! Please get in touch ASAP at [email protected] and let us know! Do you have something specific you want to do? Can only do a couple of hours here and there? No problem, tell us what works for you.
Whether you want to become an active member of the CWG, or just drop in occasionally to proofread, we appreciate any contribution. Many hands make light work and we will try to find something you can do to help.
That said, we would very much like to invite passionate individuals to join the CWG and help us make this aspect of our organisation shine. Some time in the next few weeks, we'll meet to discuss next steps, and we'd love to see you there!

Some great news from our grantees!
The Geogeeks OSM contingent are enthusiastic this year, so they've had an OSM mapping day already! Seven people came, including a new-to-OSM couple who've recently moved to the area and wanted to get to know the place via mapping some things. That sounded like a pretty great reason to come to a mapping day!
There are some photos here: https://geogeeks.org/2024/0120_osm-fremantle.html
We so looking forward to continuing sponsor their activities for the 2024!

Hi all,
The OSGeo Oceania board had its monthly meeting on 12 Jan and the minutes were finalised last night.
A large portion of the meeting was spent discussing priorities for 2024. With input from board members and the community, we had a list of topics to consider. We spent time working through a couple of these topics, specifically communication and finance, and will work on other topics in future meetings.
There was some brief discussion about the prospect of seeking individual and corporate sponsorship; the board is initially discussing this in Loomio and the discussion will be brought to the community for input.
We will reconvene the comms working group and the finance committee to help drive action in these areas. Please keep an eye out for calls for community participation in the comms working group.
Minutes are here:

As always, input & feedback welcome!
Happy new year everybody!
this coming Friday OsGeo will have the first board meeting of the year and we will be discussing new grant ideas (among other important things). The board has created a brain-dump document with all the ideas and inputs from the community about what to prioritise this year and it will be great if you can have a read and comment here below if you have more suggestions that should be added to the document!
Every task is harder alone than in a group!

Our TGP receiver for the Pacific GIS and Remote Sensing Council Conference Joshua Turia presenting now his OS project at the conference for the first time!
A small but mighty TGP group at the PGRSC Conference 2023 in Suva. We had a very tight timeline to organise and run the traveling grant, so we want to thank the Pacific GIS and Remote Sensing Council for all the help and for organizing such a great and interesting conference!
One of our goals for next year is to be able to expand the TGP for more conferences around the Pacific and even abroad, would you like it?
Feeling really happy to be part of this amazing initiative! Well done G-SIG G - SIG Timor-Leste!
Happy GIS day!!! Please let us know how are you celebrating.
