I can’t imagine music without the massive contributions from Dickey Betts…he wrote songs that are standards. People will be learning and playing them until the end of time. Truly living forever. Happy to have spent a little time with him over the years…the second photo is from the last time I saw him play in 2014, and he blew our minds that night. It was triumphant.

Home run at on a Saturday night with my homies

Charles Britain Turner. Born on Valentine’s Day which is perfect because he had a heart the size of a battleship. He loved fiercely and would fight you at the drop of a hat to defend what he loved, especially his family. (I have a scar on my head from a bar fight to attest to that) He had impeccable taste…art, design, muscle cars, hats, glasses…an effortlessly stylish dude. That great big laugh of his…I hope to be able to hear it in my mind for the rest of my life. We laughed at how everyone misspelled and mispronounced his name…I called him “Brik.” He called me “Chuk.” I don’t think in 30 years I ever saw him show up late to anything. (On time is late, early is on time.) He was a DRUMMER’S DRUMMER. In the way Ringo Starr, Charlie Watts and Levon Helm operated. He played for the song at all times and had a pocket as deep as the Grand Canyon. His impact on our lives is ABSOLUTELY immeasurable. He was one of those people that consistently made you want to be a better person. We will continue to do it his way because that’s the best way. He wouldn’t dream of Blackberry Smoke coming to an end. We will love him forever. You can finally rest, buddy. You did good.

It is with the deepest sorrow that we inform everyone that our brother has moved on from this life. If you had the privilege of knowing Brit on any level, you know he was the most caring, empathetic, driven and endearing person one could ever hope to meet. Brit was Blackberry Smoke’s True North, the compass that instituted the ideology that will continue to guide this band. Brit has battled glioblastoma since his diagnosis in the fall of 2022 and fought every day. We ask for prayers for his family and band brothers. More information on arrangements will be forthcoming. Thank you to everyone who has supported and been there for Brit and his family through this fight.
