Check out this great opportunity from our friends at Bennington Free Library! When you go to get your meals from one of the bus stops this Friday, make sure to pick up your BFL Summer Reading Packet!

Bennington Free Library delivers the Summer Reading Program! Imagine Your Story reading records and materials will be delivered directly to students by the SVSU meal buses on June 12!
Inside each envelope students will find a letter to parents and caregivers, a reading record and stickers to keep track of summer reading & qualify for rewards & certificates, and a list of Free Online Entertainment & Learning Resources on the libraryโ€™s website! BFL Youth Services Librarians, Carrie & Linda collaborated with the Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union, the wonderful staff at the Abbey Group, and the meal bus drivers to make this opportunity possible. Funded in part by a generous BFL patron.

11/05/2020

During this time of staying home and school closing we give thanks to the Abbey Group and DuFour Bus Company for serving us well. They have been serving Bennington County with almost 3000 free meals a day (breakfast & lunch plus Sat. & Sun. meals on Friday). 15 DuFour buses roll out each morning and within 2 hours they have made 165 bus stops.

VAE is inspired by the service so we are showing our gratitude by an art project called โ€œTHANKS FOR SERVING US !โ€
The meals come in plastic trays and we want you to turn them into family art works. The trays have 3 various compartments that resemble a face so thereโ€™s an idea you could start with or just decorate them! These will be collected and turn into a large THANK YOU mural that will be installed at the Middle School where the workers prepare the food and the bus drivers meet to transport.

HEREโ€™S WHAT YOU DO
#1. Save your plastic tray and wash it. If you do not have one, you may get one at Vermont Arts Exchange 48 Main St. in North Bennington.
Theyโ€™ll be in a box outside the door.

#2. Decorate it however you like, either side is fine. Suggestions: Glitter markers or silver, gold sharpies work nice on the plastic. Try painting the tray with a light color, any old paint will do. Then colored markers will work better over that when dry. To attach things, you can try hot glue or other glues. You can also collage on your tray. You can also poke holes thru the tray with a pin or nail and slide a bread twistee thru to attach things like straws, chop sticks.
Get creative, have fun!

#3. When you are finished with your tray, you can bring it to one of three DROP-OFF spots closest to you. There will be marked boxes/bins outside of these DROP OFF spots and picked up daily. They are: BEVERAGE DEN & V**E SHOP in Bennington across from Deer Park during business hours, POWERS MARKET front porch in North Bennington and at the Meal pick up site at the MIDDLE SCHOOL.
Feel free to sign your name on the back or front! Thanks very much and stay in touch with the project through VAEโ€™s page.
Weโ€™ll be creating the mural after the deadline.
COLLECTING DEADLINE IS FRIDAY, MAY 15th 5:00pm

Any questions, please e-mail [email protected]

Hello Parents,

Today we had our first fire drill of the year for our Pre K learners at Molly Stark. Everyone did a fantastic job and we were out of the building and in our designated location in under two minutes. Thank you for reinforcing with your children that the reason we practice fire drills is to be prepared in case we ever have an actual emergency. Thank you!

Our First week of Pre K 12/09/2019

We have had a wonderful first week of Pre K. Thank you for sharing your children with us!

22/08/2019

Our first day of Pre K is Tuesday September 10th at the Molly Stark and Division Street Early Education Programs. Teachers will be calling families the week of August 26th to arrange a family visit to your child's classroom prior to the start of school. We will also schedule a home or community visit with your family to help your child get to know the Pre K teaching team. During our Pre K year, our classrooms open at 8:15 a.m. All learners will be served breakfast and lunch at no charge as part of our Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Grant. Our first family night will be occurring on October 10th at 5:00 at Division Street and 5:30 at Molly Stark. Dear parents,

Iโ€™m asking you to join me in providing feedback to the Vermont Legislature about the Universal PreK program!

On behalf of the Vermont Agency of Education and Agency of Human Services, Education Development Center (EDC) is conducting an independent study to understand how the Universal Prekindergarten Law (Act 166) is working in Vermont. This PreK program was selected as one of 30 programs to participate in the study. I have participated in the study โ€“ and now they need your help too!

EDC has asked me to reach out to you to ask you to complete this survey about your experience with publicly-funded PreK. Your responses to each question in this survey are 100% confidential. Only EDC staff will see your individual responses; what you say will not be shared with your PreK program or any agency. A summary of the results gathered from all families who participate in the survey will be shared with the State Legislature!

Please go to go.edc.org/VTUPK to participate in the survey by May 24th, 2019. If you would prefer to complete a hard-copy version, please let me know and I will provide that to you along with a postage-paid envelope. If you have any questions about the survey or about this study, please contact Clare Irwin, Lead Evaluator at 860-908-9128 or [email protected].

Thank you!
