Ustaz Amin Yusuf: Remedy for the Broken Hearted – Sout Ilaahi

Allah tells us to seek light. Who is the light? It is Rasulullah salAllahualayhiwassalam. Allah created the light of Rasulullah salAllahualayhiwassalam before he created anything else in this world. If there was no light, there would only be darkness. Just as we need the sun to give us not only light and energy, but guidance as to where we are currently, we need a guide to get through the darkness.

Shaykh Mendes: Finding Paradise on Earth – Sout Ilaahi

FINDING PARADISE ON EARTH

"Ultimately, Paradise is a consciousness. It is the consciousness that you grow to, and this is true whether you’re in this life (the lower life) or after you die. That does not mean it’s not a physical place. But even your perception of that physical place, after you die, you understand it and perceive it in accordance with your level of consciousness."

Shaykh Mendes: How to Heal Your Body, Mind and Soul – Sout Ilaahi

Ramadan is coming. What have we prepared?

/You need to have a spiritual program. Take care of your body, your mind and your soul. I’m not saying that you need to join a tariqah, I’m not saying that you have to give bai’ah, pledge allegiance to a Shaykh. What I’m saying is that you need to have daily spiritual practices that you do, that feed your soul.

In Islam we have a holistic approach to spiritual practice that is easy for everyone to do. Basically, at the very minimum, after the 5 pillars of Islam—declaring your faith and establishing your prayer at the 5 sacred times of the day, fasting (Ramadan is coming), zakat (if you have wealth that reaches a threshold and you’ve had it for a lunar year) and hajj (if you’re able)—after these, or rather in addition to these, you want to have a daily practice in the mornings of supplication, invocation, recitation of the Qur’an, and meditation. These four, every morning.

soutilaahi.com You need to do certain things to sustain yourself and nourish yourself. So of course you need to take care of your health, make sure you’re eating well, don’t eat your KFC every night. [Laughter] I don’t think I’ve had KFC since 2004 [Laughs] So when I saw it last night, I was like

“Do not mistake acquirement of mere knowledge for power. Like food, these things must be digested and assimilated to become life or force. Learning is not wisdom; knowledge is not necessarily vital energy. The student who has to cram through school or a college course, who has made himself merely a receptacle for the teacher’s thoughts and ideas, is not educated; he has not gained much. He is a reservoir, not a fountain. One retains, the other gives forth. Unless his knowledge is converted into wisdom, into faculty, it will become stagnant like still water.”

Calling your spouse ugly names, blaming that person, taking out your anger on them, is a grave sin - it is throwing your garbage in their heart.
If you keep throwing your garbage in someone else's masjid (heart), how can that person ever build a healthy relationship with their Lord?
You owe it to them to recognize not only their dignity but their God-given essence, their sacredness. There is a sacred element in them, and a holy sanctuary belonging to God Alone that is in each person. This space must remain off-limits to you and your pollution.

- Shaykh Hamdi Ben Aissa, Muhammad ﷺ: Father of Humanity Class

The faith of a man without determination
The prayer and life of a man without certitude
The heart of a man without strength of faith
Entreaties to God without true devotion
The verdict of a man without justice
The intellect of a man without conscience
None of these will result in good,
either in this world or in the next.
Muhammad Raheem Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (Ral.)
The Golden Words of a Sufi Sheikh -pg. 438

If what was promised does not occur,
even though the time for its occurrence had been fixed,
then that must not make you doubt the promise.
Otherwise your intellect will be obscured
and the light of your innermost heart extinguished.

6 Secrets to Success in the Quest for True Knowledge – Sout Ilaahi

While the West was suffering their dark ages, the Muslims were in the Enlightenment period. Why was that? It’s because they followed the advice of Imam Syafiee’. They didn’t distinguish between secular and religious knowledge to begin with. If you’re gifted with studying medicine then you work hard and if you get one, two, three, four, five, six secret weapons there. You’ll be successful in medicine as you would for example, in religion, in theology or in tassawuf (Sufism) or in Hadith or in Tafsir. These were the secrets, but you know what happened? Although I teach it incidentally, my main area of teaching is theology, both Islamic theology and Christian theology. On the side because my first degree was in History of Science, so I have a bit of interest in this, particularly looking at the transmission of knowledge from the Greek tradition into the Islamic world.

Humans are born soft and supple;
Dead, they are stiff and hard.
Plants are born tender and pliant;
Dead, they are brittle and dry.

Thus whoever is stiff and inflexible
Is a disciple of death.
Whoever is soft and yielding
Is a disciple of life.

The hard and stiff will be broken
The soft and supple will prevail.

—Lao Tzu
