Should your company be LTD or Limited – is there a difference?
So you’re ready to register you Limited company, but should it be “LTD” or should it be “Limited” or does it even make any difference and can you skip between the two?
On the surface we are led to believe that we should stick to the correct term. In the greater world I am sure we’re all guilty of perhaps not checking thoroughly whether we are dealing with LTD or Limited when writing a cheque, address etc.
In actual fact, in law it is perfectly acceptable to abbreviate to LTD as an alternative to Limited.
So, it seems the only instant that it is vital we refer to the correct term is in fact when submitting any documentation to Companies House. Who requires that you use the company name exactly as shown on the incorporation certificate they are actually entitled to reject any documents submitted with the wrong suffix.
Companies House confirms that other than documents submitted directly to them, a company is entitled to use LTD, Limited in any variation it wishes irrespective of what was used at the time of incorporation.
