To say Happy Mother’s Day seems to be cheap, insensitive and filled with no emotion sometimes. We have been conditioned in this country to look for the perfect gift, celebrate at the perfect spot, we’ve done it so many times, it seems we are conditioned to do so. There are some that wish they still had their mothers around to continue this tradition but life had other plans.

I know that for some this day is filled with a lot of emotions. I’ve seen a lot of timelines of people dealing with the loss of their mothers today. I don’t have the words of comfort for them to ease their pain. All I can truly say is I’m sorry for your loss. As I sat with my Mom yesterday for our traditional lunch at Anthony’s Fish Grotto, it occurred to me, I don’t know how many more of these occasions I have left with her. Maybe it’s because I’m now 50 years old, but every time I see my Mom I know that every meeting could be our last. I’m forced to prepare for the day when she is no longer here and I know at this moment, I’m nowhere near prepared to recover from that. So on this day, my wish for everyone is strength. The strength to deal with losing their Mom, to be able to harness the memories and carry on.
