Making a project with variegated yarn can have amazing results. All photos shown are of the same hat made with a variegated yarn called Reef. Depending on how you place it on your head, it can look like an entirely different hat. No two hats are ever the same and one hat can look like four or more. We love it when a hat turns out this striking. Our clients love it, too. :)

Starting Over

As an adult I have enjoyed many family oriented times like fishing, camping and traveling with my husband and daughters. I could always be counted on for get together barbeques and dinners, and was always up for flexing my culinary muscles. I absolutely love to cook and experiment with new dishes.

I also love being outdoors where we were always gardening and growing beautiful flower beds and vegetable gardens every year followed by days (weeks?) of harvesting. It was a lot of very hard work, but so rewarding to my family to see the resulting jars of colorful bounty lining the shelves ready for winter. I was never one to hold still long. I was always busy.

Then a few years ago my world suddenly changed when my husband passed away unexpectedly. With our daughters both grown and off with families of their own, I suddenly felt lost and out of place. Nothing that I once took pleasure in had the same interest anymore. So, I sold our home leaving the big yard and gardens behind me and moved to a smaller place in a close knit community where the people are incredibly warm and welcoming. During the transition though, I still felt such a void.

I tried floral arrangement for a while and even took up trying my hand at painting, but these didn’t hold my interest long. Then one day I saw a lady knitting and I remembered my sister used to occasionally bring her crocheting with her when she came for a visit. I wondered if it might be something I would enjoy. I asked her to teach me. It was a bit of a challenge as Geri is left handed and I am right handed, but sitting across from each other, we got started with the lessons. Soon I discovered I absolutely loved to crochet and I also discovered I have a talent for designing my own items. After a few failures and many start-overs, my work became more uniform and professional, but I lacked a good outlet for all the items I was creating.
