Glace Bay Miners SKATE CLUB

We will have registration information in the next few days, including prices & a TENTATIVE schedule (subject to change once we have program numbers & ice allocation times).

This year we will offer ONLINE registration, as well as limited in-person registration.

We offer Pre-Canskate, Canskate & STARskate programs for ages 3+, (including an adult skating program), with sessions perfect for beginners, recreational skaters, hockey prep, or figure skaters of all levels!

Skaters must turn 3 on or before December 31, 2024 to register for a fall start time; and 3 on or before April 31, 2025 to begin in January.

⭐⭐⭐Exciting news for our club 🙂 🙂 🙂 ⭐⭐⭐

⭐But first a little history of skating clubs in our area. When I grew up figure skating we had several thriving clubs in our area. Over the years, all but 2 clubs closed as we lost coaches and skating was VERY expensive and many families simply couldn't afford it. I grew up in Mira but always represented the Glace Bay Figure Skating Club. Over the past few years we have been operating as a satellite club of CB Blades Skate Club which is run by a dedicated & community minded volunteer Debbie MacNeil❤️. As our club in GB grew we had many discussions with our core volunteers and decided to apply to Skate Canada to re-open Glace Bay Skating Club.⭐

We are very happy to announce that our application was approved and we are now the ⭐GLACE BAY MINERS SKATING CLUB⭐. When discussing the name we decided to add the Miners as a symbol of bravery, hard work and humility. Three values we hope to instill in our skaters. It also represents our connection to the Glace Bay Miners Hockey Association as our club would not exist without them. When James Edwards approached me three years ago to coach a group of 12 skaters and their parents I had no idea the club would grow so fast and we would be able to offer extremely reasonably priced skating programs to hundreds of children, youth and adults in our community. ❤️❤️❤️To say we are grateful to be sponsored by GBMH would be an understatement and we do not take this opportunity lightly❤️

⭐As the GLACE BAY MINERS SKATING CLUB we now have a board of volunteers who work hard behind the scenes to make everything happen!! We are so happy to share our board members...😁😁😁

⭐Club culture is very important to us. We strive to create a club that is positive, respectful, fun and responsive. We lean on our older skaters to be role models for those coming behind them. We want to create skaters who lift each other up and celebrate all things skating because when it all comes down to it, WE LOVE TO SKATE and skating is for everyone. ❤️❤️❤️

This is to ensure we only have valid accounts joining that are in some way related to a skater or interested in joining, to keep our skaters and their information safe.

This is also why we request that figure skaters and adults use the Heja app to notify us of attendance or questions, vs posting in the Facebook group. Tots/Intro/everyone, you can always message the Skate Club page regarding specific skaters - you’ll reach Ryan, Ann Marion & Adele.

Our second registration is tomorrow, Saturday from 12-2pm at the Glace Bay Miners Forum! 🥳

✳️Our Adult program also begins tomorrow evening, from 6-8pm at the forum. Participants must be registered prior to getting on the ice.

If you are paying your registration fee with your account, PLEASE ensure that you confirm your available account total with Tracey first, & have exact cash at registration if making a partial payment. We don’t have access to what’s in your account.

This will make it much easier on us than trying to find you for remaining cash owed later ❤️

Tracey is in the office today, and available by phone/email, and will be in her office tonight during registration as well.
