It. Is. Happening. And I can finally talk about it.

The debut solo album Juniper is in the works. But, to make it a reality, I need your help. I am raising $3,500 in the next 30 days.

I am beyond excited about this body of work - it represents my stories and the stories of women I love. Every dollar raised goes directly to the production of the record, from recording to paying guest musicians to album art and everything in between. Making a record is serious business, and I’m so excited to do it alongside my incredible people.

Every backer will get access to exclusive behind the scenes content, demos, album art previews - everything. There are also a ton of fun rewards available for backers (t-shirts! CDs! ~*vinyl*~).

Will you help me raise $3,500 by May 4th?

I can’t stop thinking about the Book of Longings. That book has been rumbling around in my heart since I finished reading it in December, so today I finished this.

I don’t care
How many glasses you break
How many missteps you make
How many false starts
I don’t care
How many times it may take
How many promises I have to make for your heart

Sometimes you have to rearrange all the furniture in your room and play some new songs (and sort of learn how to vaguely play them along the way). This new one, "Welches, OR" is from day 1 of the song a day project from February.

Stay inside! Call your friends! Make music!

Well, friends. It’s here.
💛
The songs on this album have been in the works since the spring of 2018, and here we are, different. Wiser. Stranger. Stretched, hopefully further towards the Light.
💛
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this - to for designing EVERYTHING (seriously, album art, future merch, everything). To for images that are warm and human and perfect. To for offering your beautiful violin on Home. And to the family - we have the privilege of creating beautiful things.
💛
Now it’s time to dance, friends.

How We Get Free: Black Feminism and the Combahee River Collective

“The point if talking about Combahee is not to be nostalgic; rather, we talk about it because Black women are still not free.”

Not exactly an easy read (most of the book is made up of interviews, which can be dense) — however, the importance of the history of the Combahee River Collective, a trailblazing group of Black feminists, and their contribution to feminism and social activism cannot be overstated.

They established black feminism as an analytical framework still wildly relevant today. Black feminism necessitates a wide scope of change because oppression is interlocking.

White lady pals - let’s make our feminism less white! I’m just learning what that means and for me, this was a super helpful start.

A note popped into my calendar today reminding me that I played this show a year ago, kicking off a season more miraculous than I could have possibly imagined. Hundreds of songs, and hundreds of hours of honing and shaping. Thousands of prayers for wisdom in art. Feeling majorly majorly thankful and totally in awe of how, even thought time passes quickly, it is so dense with magic. Three cheers for big years. Thank you thank you thank you. ❤️🌿 @ Inman Square - Cambridge, MA.

"All I know for certain is that this is how I want to spend my life - collaborating to the best of my ability with forces of inspiration I can neither see, nor prove, nor command, nor understand." Elizabeth Gilbert

I've learned a lot from gracious and tender friends over the past 30 days. I've learned that even if our expectations of ourselves change, the nature of creativity and inspiration does not. She's kind and she's generous but she's not consistent. Some days our schedules line up, and other days they don't. Our job is to pull up a chair, help her feel at home, listen hard, and give lots and lots of thanks, even when we're met with awkward silence. To another 30 days done and many more to come.

When sweet got home tonight ya girl was singing songs in the dark. You might say we're ready to build an autumn cocoon.

Mapmaker, brand new one from the September writing sprint.

I had you once /

Oh and God willing I'll have you again /

Real or mirage /

Or just a cruel trick the light plays on the brain /

Where shall I go /

What shall I do /

I would swim oceans for you /
