The hype is real!

Quick Update: We attempted to keep everything quiet until we were absolutely certain that the relaunch was close. Unfortunately, the news leaked in December and we wanted to confirm we were in fact working on bringing plug back. The launch date has shifted around quite a bit while we solved all of the unforeseen non-technical administrative things. The good news is that we're on the home stretch. We sincerely appreciate all of the enthusiasm and hope to see everyone back real soon. We're all anxiously awaiting the relaunch, and once we have a real date, we will let you know!

I am offline and moving at the moment, but I heard the news about plug today, and I wanted to say a few words.

First and foremost... I want you all to rest assured, the chillout mixer will continue. This is in large part thanks to the staff of the mixer doing their homework to find us another "lifeboat" to a place we can continue our tradition. Some of you may know his is not the first time we have had to move due to a service shutting its doors. The Mixer is not a "room" on a service. It's a group of people, working together, sharing ideas on ways to improve social music.

Secondly... It's truly heartbreaking to see plug shut its doors. For me, it was bitter sweet. I had a brief foray into the BA scene... and I also had the rare opportunity to meet some of the original staff first hand while in he LA area... and see one of their office spaces before they moved. It was really inspiring and cool. They clearly had a vision, and were having fun achieving that vision... but then.... money. It's bitter sweet because I swear they could have done more to earn money from the community much sooner. Sweet, because of late, the way the BAs and staff approached community affairs and hosts was appalling. Some of the things said were so totally unprofessional there were times I hoped for their utter destruction. Who didn't hate plug for one reason or another at some point? The disappointment at times was unreal.

What we should all recognize however, is how hard it must have been, in earnest, to achieve their hopes, goals, and dreams. I know they overcame insane odds. I know they survived for much longer than they thought possible. I know they dealt with so many bonkers users, misfits, bugs, etc... any one of them could claim insanity. And so its with complete respect that I bid them farewell... and wish them good fortune. I even have a glimmer of hope plug may reopen in some wonderful future... but chances are, like turntable, plug is gone forever.

PS: Other services and startups are coming online, I've gotten emails assuring me a couple plug/tt like sites are upcoming... so stay tuned as we navigate turbulent waters... this isn't the end... not today my friends.
