Back in Balance Massage Therapy
A deep tissue massage can benefit anyone. Clients come for a deep tissue massage to help alleviate pain, but it also feels great! Why massage therapy?
Hi my name is Derek and I am a fully certified Massage Therapist, specialising in Swedish and Deep Tissue Massage. Being a former competitive swimmer, cyclist and motocross rider, I’ve been the recipient of hundreds of massages, which have helped me through many injuries, aches and pains, and most of all always kept me at the top of my game over the years. When I came to studying massage therapy I
Carrying a bag on the shoulder (even if it is empty) requires constant isometric contraction of the elevators of the shoulder girdle, such as the upper trapezius, levator scapulae, and rhomboids.
Use, leading to overuse, leading to misuse, leading to abuse...
A bag carried cross-shoulder does not require the scapular elevators to have to overwork.

Most people I talk to know that they should stretch. They also know that it is beneficial but they just do not make the time to. Work it into your lifestyle, stretch while you watch Game of Thrones or Peaky Blinders! Make it happen :)
Here are some muscles that are popular for getting very tight. This could be from sitting at a desk all day, driving a lot, looking down at a phone and many other things.

Make some time for you :)
Have a great Monday and a fabulous week!
The weekend approaches folks, have a great one! 😃
...sometimes i do not understand either, it just happens 🙂🙃
One of the most common requests I get from clients is to relieve some of the tension in the trapezius or rhomboid area. A nice stretch for this area is shown in the pic. I find if you rest your bum on a wall for support and separate your feet a little further apart, it intensifies the stretch a bit.
Remember to:
1. Warm up before you stretch
2. Only stretch to the point of mild discomfort
3. Breath normally when stretching
This should hold you over till your next massage :)
...and if you are happy, why not be twice as happy! 😃😃
Having regular massages myself - I know this feeling all too well!
Our Story
Hi my name is Derek and I am a Certified Massage Therapist, specializing in pain therapy and relaxing massage.
Being a former competitive swimmer, cyclist and motocross racer, I’ve been the recipient of hundreds of massages, which have helped me through many injuries, aches and pains, and most of all always kept me at the top of my game over the years.
When I came to studying massage therapy I found myself already so familiar with many different techniques that gaining my certification felt like the next organic step. In the past 3 years I’ve worked on athletes, yoga practitioners, sports-enthusiasts and anyone in need of some stress and tension release.
I incorporate different styles of massage to meet each individual’s needs; these might include deep tissue manipulation, trigger point therapy, accupressure or myofascial release along with more traditional Swedish massage techniques.
Why massage therapy?
For me that is simple. I love helping people. Having suffered with Chronic back pain myself I understand how debilitating pain or tension can be and it gives me a sense of professional satisfaction to know that I can help people relieve their discomfort. When clients walk in for an appointment feeling not so great, but walk out feeling amazing, it’s the greatest thing!
