Every time I hit both Dreadnought and Hook & Catch in the same day, I drive through this little town called Evart. Last weekend, I decided to make a quick stop to try a burger. Here is the 1/2lb Lamplighter Burger from The Lamplighter Cafe.

The Lamplighter Cafe is located at 313 W 7th street in Evart, Michigan.

The Lamplighter Burger comes in 1/4lb and 1/2lb. Since I had just finished one training session and was heading to another, I chose to go big. 2 1/4lb patties, grilled onion, mushroom, ham, and American cheese. I am a big fan of canned mushroom on pizza and it was surprising to see canned mushroom on a burger. I think it makes the mushroom less likely to be dried out and mixed with the grilled onion, it was great. The grilled ham made it almost a mix of awesome flavors. I could describe this as an omelette with no egg on a burger or a grilled ham and cheese burger. So many different foods came to mind while eating it. It definitely filled me up and tasted great. I'd give the Lamplighter Burger a 4 out of 5 rating.

If you're passing through Evart, stop in to The Lamplighter Cafe. I only looked at the burgers, but they have much more on the menu and the service is very fast.

I only have a few years left in my mma career and I have been trying to think of how to make the most impact with my time left. Michigan fight licenses are renewed in August, so I decided for my remaining years, I will be donating my show purse. I'll pick a good cause and for 1 year, every fight I have, the show purse will be donated to that cause, then the following August, I'll pick a new one. So, my bestie got into a very difficult nursing program and I wanted to take her out to celebrate. When I asked where she wanted to go for dinner, she said Texas Roadhouse, which is a place I have never been. So obviously that means burger review time. This is the Smokehouse Burger.

This Texas Roadhouse is located at 3776 28th street SE in Kentwood, MI.

The Smokehouse burger comes with lettuce, tomato, and red onion and is topped with sauteed mushroom and onion, BBQ sauce, and melted American and Jack cheeses. First thing, I really enjoy red onion on salads, but I am not use to it being on a burger, especially a burger that also has sauteed onion. Not a bad thing, just not something I see a lot. I can't comment on the BBQ sauce because I didn't notice it. But the burger had a great taste and was very messy between the melted cheeses and the high piled sauteed onion and mushroom. It was a good burger but nothing overly exciting. I would eat it again, but I wouldn't make it a priority. I would give the Smokehouse Burger a 3 out of 5 rating.

Definitely stop in and try Texas Roadhouse if you haven't been there. The menu has a lot of good looking items and I had the best chili cheese fries ever, while I was there.

More teammates competing this weekend. Ben, from Dreadnought, kickboxing for CLIP on Friday and Justin, from Hook & Catch, in the blue belt absolute tournament at Submission Series on Saturday. Let's gooooo

You can learn skills. You can train cardio. You can't teach heart. Didn't get the win, but didn't back down and kept fighting all 3 rounds in what many say was their pick for fight of the night. Couldn't be more proud of my teammate.

You win some, you lose some. But the good battles are always the most fun, regardless of outcome. These are 2 of the 3 fights I always show people when they first find out I fight.
