My brother, David, passed away on Monday morning, June 27th. Here's the obituary.

I reconnected with Mike Mattei yesterday as he performed an acoustic brunch at our local coffee shop in Speedway, Indiana. Mike and I were in Rock Prophets together from 2002 until we broke up in 2011. The music from Wrestling the Stranger was composed during our time together. Some songs like Strip Me, You Gotta Help Me, Lord, and I'm Gonna Rock and Roll For You, Lord were part of your sets for a time. I can remember performing those at the Comfort Zone Coffeehouse in Plainfield in those days.
Anyway here's hoping you have friends to warm your heart! ❤️
Performing at Irvington UMC yesterday. First song was written for my firstborn, Amanda, when she was only 7 months old.
I couldn't capture how it feels to be a new dad, so I wrote a song about being unable to write a song about how I felt. It's called "If I Could Write A Song"
If I could make some sense of all the feelings I have inside me,
I'd wrap them in a melody and sing it tenderly to you.
I had the good fortune to perform for Irvington UMC today. The first set was acoustic. The second was rock tracks from Wrestling The Stranger.

The Killers - Joel The Lump Of Coal Lyrics
Merry Christmas to you all! I think my favorite Christmas music this year comes from Lauren Daigle and The KIllers. Daigle's beautiful voice touches the heart with "Light of the World". The Killers have a new song called "Joel the Lump of Coal" that's like the new Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Here's a bit of the lyrics. I don't think the message of Christmas is missed on these guys.
Joel, Joel, the lump of coal
Knew what he must do
He said "Now I know the reason why
I got sent to you
Cause when a person hurts inside
It turns him hard and cruel
But I know how to make your pain
Into a precious jewel
So take me in your hand, young man
And squeeze with all your might
Let's turn your pain and anger
Into something that shines bright"
Then Joel, Joel, the lump of coal
He gave his life away
So that one good naughty little boy
Had a diamond on Christmas day

I performed Tim McGraw's "Humble and Kind" at a funeral yesterday. I'm not a country music fan by any stretch of imagination. The closest I get to country is Neil Young, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and other southern influenced rock artists. Having said that, it was such an honor to play a song the deceased loved, for the lyrics embodied his love for his family. The advice in the song served as his parting words to his loved ones. As I sang the song the tear drenched faces stared up at me. They celebrated his life and continued to grieve him. The music helped to unlock pent up emotions. It was hard not to get choked up too.
Empathy and music are such powerful human qualities. I thank God for we are fearfully and wonderfully made!
There's a song on the air!

Scott Tyring performing "Breathe".
I sang this song in worship this morning. Good message. Just Breathe!
"Breathe"
As performed by Jonny Diaz
Alarm clock screaming bare feet hit the floor
It’s off to the races everybody out the door
I’m feeling like I’m falling behind, it’s a crazy life
Ninety miles an hour going fast as I can
Trying to push a little harder trying to get the upper hand
So much to do in so little time, it’s a crazy life
It’s ready, set, go it’s another wild day
When the stress is on the rise in my heart I feel you say just
Breathe, just breathe
Come and rest at my feet
And be, just be
Chaos calls but all you really need
Is to just breathe
Third cup of joe just to get me through the day
Want to make the most of time but I feel it slip away
I wonder if there’s something more to this crazy life
I’m busy, busy, busy, and it’s no surprise to see
That I only have time for me, me, me
There’s gotta be something more to this crazy life
I’m hanging on tight to another wild day
When it starts to fall apart in my heart I hear you say just
Breathe, just breathe
Come and rest at my feet
And be, just be
Chaos calls but all you really need
Is to take it in fill your lungs
The peace of God that overcomes
Just breathe
So let your weary spirit rest
Lay down what’s good and find what’s best
Just breathe
Just breathe, just breathe
Come and rest at my feet
And be, just be
Chaos calls but all you really need
Is to just breathe
Just breathe
Happy Father's Day to all you fathers out there!

I Want You Back - The Jackson 5
Blessings to you in the name of the Lord Jesus. It's African American or Black History Month. We completely owe a debt of gratitude to the pioneers of blues, jazz, jump and gospel who gave life to rock and roll. So far I've been listening to Chuck Berry and Robert Cray. Today I wish to celebrate the Jackson family from Gary, Indiana. Michael Jackson became the King of Pop, but before that he was a part of The Jackson 5. Here's a big hit by them.
