Jane LeBlanc Legacy Fund Announces 2023 Nova Scotia Creative Award Winner

The 2023 Jane LeBlanc Nova Scotia Creative Award with a cash prize of $1000 has gone to Nova Scotia filmmaker Colin MacDonald
“I am beyond excited and grateful to be selected for the JL Nova Scotia Creative Award and have the opportunity to create a documentary regarding the housing crisis in Nova Scotia. I will share stories and interviews - both personal and from our community- of the struggle to keep a roof over our heads. Thank you to the Jane LeBlanc Legacy Fund, Cat LeBlanc, the Atlantic jury, and BOYNECLARKE LLP for the generous support.”
As an award-winning filmmaker, cinematographer, and editor, Colin has been honing his creative talents in the Nova Scotia screen industry over the past ten years. He has produced over a dozen short films and music videos, including the award-winning projects Stitches (2022), Presents (2019), and Presence (2013).
Colin’s career in post-production has also granted him the opportunity to be the lead editor, colourist, and assistant editor on numerous documentary films and series, including Militaria (2020- 2023), I See You (2022), Farrin (2020), Generation We (2019), Fanarchy (2015), and Nightmare Factory (2011)
Colin’s passion lies in collaborating on documentary and narrative films that strongly focus on character and story, striving for creative and innovative ways of evoking emotion in the audience.

The Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia (WFNS) is seeking a creative, skilled, and innovative leader to oversee WFNS's fundraising, strategic, programming, and operational activities. A demonstrated passion for the arts, in particular the literary arts, is a must for this senior leadership role.
This is a four-day-per-week, permanent position with a salary range of $52,000 – $58,000. The position is based in WFNS's Halifax office. Applications will be received until 5pm (Atlantic) on May 8, 2023.

We are currently casting for readers for the 17th edition of Working the Scene in Colour, taking place on Thursday, May 25 at 7pm on Zoom.
This volunteer opportunity is open to all ACTRA Toronto members and apprentices of all genders, ages, cultural diversities, etc.
You will be reading scripts from emerging and experienced Black, Indigenous and Person of Colour writers, in front of a virtual audience of your peers and industry professionals.

This six-day workshop series is the first step in developing a feature film or tv/web project. Participants are selected to participate in our incubator program by submitting a project for development and are expected to commit to the advancement of their projects with the ultimate goal of having their work produced.
Our commitment is to provide training and support to the writers for all stages of development including access to industry representatives and funding opportunities.
