There are many hotly contested issues in AI governance whose solutions could be clarified through the use of collective dialogues. To test how well this idea works in practice, we will be running our first 'Collective Dialogue Workshop' as part of the OxAI Mini-Conference on Sunday 25th February, focusing on the general deliberation question: "Do you think driverless vehicles should replace human-operated ones?".
The workshop is open to attendees from all ages and disciplinary backgrounds and requires no prior knowledge of AI, collective dialogues, or driverless technologies.
Given the chosen topic, we expect discussions to be highly interesting and enjoyable for all participants, and we hope that the workshop will give attendees the opportunity (i) to improve their critical thinking, justification and deliberation skills, and (ii) to assess the potential benefits of including collective dialogues in decision-making processes.

🔍 More great speakers this week in Oxford! 🌍 Join us for an insightful talk by Eliot Higgins, the founder of Bellingcat, an investigative journalism group that specialises in fact-checking and open-source intelligence (OSINT).

📆 When: February 13, 17:30
📍 Where: Oxford Union

Eliot's expertise is centered on the weaponry used in the war in Syria and delves deep into open-source investigation tools and techniques. A significant focus of his work is Ukraine, particularly investigating the Russian war crimes committed since the onset of the invasion in 2014.

🔍 Bellingcat's open-source investigation played a pivotal role in exposing the Russian army's responsibility for the tragic shooting of Malaysian Boeing MH-17 over Donbas in 2014, resulting in the loss of 298 innocent lives.

🤝 The event is proudly organized by the Oxford Union, in collaboration with the Oxford University Ukrainian Society and the Oxford AI Society.
