Did you know that there was a difference between a Service Dog, an Emotional Support Dog? We didn't either and had to go look it up!
According to the National Service Animal Registry "A service dog is specially trained to perform a function or job for an owner that has a physical, intellectual, or emotional disability. An emotional support animal serves as more of a companion for the owner. A service dog may still be able to provide the comfort of an emotional support animal, but it has been trained to complete tasks that a support dog will not."
According to Rover.com here are some ways service dogs help people with cancer;
1️⃣ - Emotional Support
2️⃣ - Good for Your Health
3️⃣ - Lend a Helping Hand
A program that runs a support dog programs for cancer patients is Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center
A nonprofit providing services includes The Good Dog Foundation

If you have ever had to undergo chemo, then you were probably reminded countless times to stay hydrated🚰. How many of you start with the best of intentions, but then find yourself majorly short on your required water intake at the end of the day?
Now there are countless apps available to remind you to drink water like WaterMinder App / What app do you use?
Not only is it important to stay hydrated, but it's also important to drink clean water that is not contaminated.
It's World Water Day 🌊and we are thankful for organizations like Environmental Working Group who report that "Increased cancer risks were linked to 22 carcinogens found in the drinking water." 😮
Wondering how safe is your water💧? Checkout their Tap Water Database at https://www.ewg.org/tapwater/

Interestingly enough today is not only National Fragrance Day🧴🧴🧴, but it's also National Flower Day🌹🌹🌹 (at least that's what I learned in the email from FTD Flowers this morning).
How many of you found out AFTER being diagnosed with cancer that there were tons of chemicals in the fragrance that some of us would apply to our bodies EVERY day? In fact, Wellness Mama shared in their blog, "Problems With Perfumes and Fragrances" how Phthalates, Musk Ketone, and Formaldehyde are "just three of the 3,100 chemicals used in fragrances!" WOW😮!!
Way back when, fragrances were made of flowers, oils and other natural materials, but you'd be hard-pressed to find them today. One such company that has natural (not synthetic) products in their fragrances includes Alitura
Do you know any other companies that produce safe fragrances or perfumes? How many of you just go without fragrances and cologne post cancer? What is your go-to product to add a fresh scent?
Who couldn't use this opportunity to get paid for doing what you already needed to do if you are age 45 and older?!

This is the very 1st encounter someone will have at their medical appointment, whether they are a new patient, experienced patient or family member. This person has a huge amount of influence in setting the stage for how this 🏥 medical appointment is going to turn out. The look on their face 😀 and the tone of their voice 💬 can keep a cancer patient and survivor from losing it right there in the waiting room. Their noticing eye will be the one that knows if you need a Kleenex for your eyes or maybe need a private place to wait for the doctor. They hold the key to you being seen. This patient experience is everything. Today is NATIONAL RECEPTIONIST DAY and we commend those receptionist who do an exceptional job and truly understand how what they do every day can mean the world 🌍 of difference for a survivor.

Over 50% of Cancer Survivors DO NOT get access to the support services that they need. If you are a cancer survivor who was able to get the help that you needed (childcare, mortgage, meals, counseling, medical devices, exercise, nutrition etc.), we're conducting interviews to find out how you were able to defy the odds and get access to those support services. Real life examples would be useful for an amazing book that we'll be releasing in 2019. We must learn from each other and especially how you dealt with everyday challenges, while you were in the fight of your life. Send us a DM so we can connect. Please share with your network.
Oftentimes, cancer survivors find that some clothing items that were considered everyday wear are now classified as medical accessories and cost 3x's aa much as they used too. Some are covered by insurance, some partially covered, not at all covered or only ONE covered by insurance for a year. In the case of bras for cancer survivors, ONE bra a year just doesn't cut it. We could use your help with finding organizations that donate medically necessary bras to breast cancer survivors.

It's National Nurses Week 2018 and while we don't have any free food or gifts to offer, we wanted to share our utmost appreciation for nurses, and a special thank you to Oncology Nurses, who are the center of care for many cancer patients. It is often the oncology nurse who has a sense of not only the physical pain, but also the mental anguish that may befall a patient and survivor. They are the ones who will take the extra few minutes to lend an ear or lay a hand of comfort. They will also offer the shoulder to cry on when it doesn't feel like there is any hope and will be there to help lift you up and encourage you to continue the fight. They can provide the light of hope in the midst of a time of darkness. Probably every cancer patient and survivor can recall a moment of hope that involves a nurse. So, thank you for providing the help and support that a cancer patient needs in the midst of a storm.⠀
