They’re off! Members of the 1st Battalion, 181st Infantry Regiment boarded planes today January 28, 2024, at Hanscom Air Force Base to begin the first part of their deployment. Soldiers were seen off by Massachusetts Army National Guard Chief of Staff Col. Richard Cipro, Massachusetts National Guard State Command Seargent Major, Sgt. Maj. James Campbell, Massachusetts Army National Guard Command Chief Warrant Officer, Chief Warrant Officer 5 Jay Vincent, along with other senior officers and non-commissioned officers from the Massachusetts National Guard. The 1-181st are headed off to their mobilization training site before deploying to the Middle East to support ongoing military operations in the region as part of Operation Inherent Resolve.

U.S. Army Combined Arms Doctrine Directorate (CADD) extensively researched Arctic and extreme cold weather operations for over a year.

The 11th Airborne Division has played a critical role in the study along with consultation with other Arctic nations such as Canada, Norway, Finland, Sweden and Denmark.

Did you know the U.S. has a Special Forces unit in Korea? U.S. Special Operations Command-Korea often conducts training with the Republic of Korea Special Forces.

On Dec. 22, 2023, they conducted joint training to maintain a heightened proficiency in SOF-unique skills, some of the rotational Special Forces Green Berets completed a dynamic full mission profile culminating exercise with counterparts from 대한민국 특수전사령부 / ROK Special Warfare Command and ROK SSAT.

Soldiers assigned to the Pennsylvania National Guard, 56th Striker Brigade Combat Team, 28th Infantry Division, departed Jan. 1, 2024, for a nearly yearlong deployment to Africa to support U.S. Army Europe and Africa and partner forces with security objectives in the region.

Maj. Gen. Mark McCormack, commanding general of the 28th Infantry Division; Brig. Gen. Laura McHugh, deputy adjutant
general-Army; Command Sgt. Maj. Shawn Phillips, senior enlisted leader, Penn. National Guard; and other officials greeted Soldiers as they boarded the plane to leave Pennsylvania.
