Dr. Kimmo Murto
Pediatric Anesthesiologist, Clinician Researcher, Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine
Dr. Kimmo Murto is a pediatric anesthesiologist at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) and an Associate Professor with the University of Ottawa, Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine. He is the Director of Research for the CHEO Department site and is both a former cardiac anesthesiologist and Hospital Medical Director for Strategy and Performance. Dr. Murto’s main research interests are in the perioperative management of children undergoing tonsil surgery, managing the massive bleeding patient and using technology to improve value in healthcare service delivery.
Major Elodie Tremblay
Nursing Officer, Canadian Armed Forces
Major Elodie Tremblay is a Nursing Officer for the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). Her current primary responsibility is to review the CAF Nursing occupation and the employment/training of its members. She also practice as a Critical Care Nursing Officer (Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Room). Major Tremblay will participate in this year’s SPARK conference panel, where she will speak about Nursing Officer roles and responsibilities in the CAF, as well as, domains of practice and deployment opportunities.

Major Marie-Andree Lavoie is a medical officer for the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). Her current primary responsibility is to provide oversight about Combat Casualty Care policies. She also works as an Emergency Physician. As one of the keynote speakers for this years SPARK conference, Major Lavoie will be speaking about her role as the Task Force Surgeon and Canadian Medical Emergency Response Team leader during her recent deployment in Mali.

Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry and Biomolecular Sciences
Dr. Jaclyn Brusso’s research is in the area of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Dr. Brusso and her team aims to address key challenges associated with the design and development of novel electronic, optical and magnetic materials through the synthesis of new closed and open shell organo-main group compounds. Her current research is also focusing on the exploration of non-innocent ligands in the development of novel coordination complexes, polymers and networks.

Assistant Professor, Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology
Dr. Morgan Fullerton is currently an associate Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology at the University at Ottawa. Dr. Fullerton's research focuses on the complex inplay between metabolism and immunity. He aims to uncover some of the underlying mechanisms by which metabolic and immune processes are altered in chronic diseases such as insulin resistance (which leads to type 2 diabetes), atherosclerosis (which leads to heart disease) and fatty liver disease.

Shainuka Kannathas is a third year psychology student (she has already completed a H.BSc. in Biomedical Sciences) from Brampton, Ontario. She enjoys shopping, playing badminton, and loves tacos. Her role models are her parents. She likes project pulse because it is student run, friendly, approachable, and the hours are very flexible.
Finance:
Prabasha Rasaputra is a first year biomedical sciences student from Bayshore, Ontario. He enjoys playing cricket and loves poutine. His role model is his mom. He likes project pulse because it gives the opportunity for young adults to learn about the medical field.
