For a sustainable brand the design is a key step, because thatโ€™s when the designer decides of the lifecycle of the product; how it is going to look like, what it will be made of, and how it is going to be used and by whom.

It's when the designer choose to create a timeless piece that you could wear over and over again, or a piece that you will only wear a couple of times like in fast fashion.

I am finally back on track!
This winter holiday I decided to take a "long" time away, to stay with family and enjoy the Caribbean sea, after a tough but full of lessons 2020. One of the things that a lot of people realised with the social distancing situation, is that people surrounding our lives, and even more our love ones, are very important to us and an essential part of who we are. Being together and sharing love have shown to be so important this year! This is why, in spite of everything, I decided to take a break in my life for 1 month and a half and travel to Colombia.

Now I am recharged with love, enthusiasm and energy for this 2021. It may have started a bit as a repeat of 2020, but I'm positive and have already plenty of new ideas and projects!

I hope you all were able to recharge your batteries for this new year, and most of all, I hope that you and your love ones are keeping healthy and positive ๐Ÿ˜Š

At Lorena Villegas, it is very important to avoid as much waste as possible in the production process of our clothes. This is why we are working with deadstock fabrics, which are the excess of fabric from other fashion houses who order more fabric than they plan on using. We buy these wonderful fabrics to give them a new life, and prevent them from ending up in landfills.

A few days ago we went to Paris to buy fabrics for our new pieces and we found two new places with beautiful deadstock fabrics from Balenciaga and from an independent Parisian textil creator.

THE BRAND

Lorena Villegas brand was founded in 2018 in Amsterdam in which the Designer has created a signature of her own. Born and raised in Colombia, Lorena takes inspiration from Colombian craftsmanship and heritage that now applies to a range of clothes including dresses, jackets, coats, and tops.

What is striking about Lorena Villegasโ€™ designs is surely the travel statements she makes in each of her creation with the destinations she experienced. Her pieces are unique and designed for the chic and adventurous women.

She also loves to put together elements that would not naturally match; mixing very structured pieces with more light and flowing fabrics, very sober colours with very colourful pieces and classic designs with ancestral craft.

Sustainability and upcycling fabrication by reusing dead-stock have been at heart of the brandโ€™s identity since its creation. She pushes herself to go against the easy way of doing fashion and rather adopted a slow fashion approach to her work. The clothes are entirely produced in Europe in small series and some pieces are even only made in pre-order, following the principles of haute couture, to ensure the uniqueness of her designs, the high quality of the confection, and also that all the people involved in the production process of the garments are treated fairly and work in a good environment.
