Civil Disobedience
By Tony Robles

Curfews
Tear gas
killer cops
broken glass

random bricks left
in a pile
up for grabs
(Left by whom?)

thousands of fists in
the air holding pieces
Stolen land
Stolen hearts
Stolen minds
Stolen lives
that belong to us

together lifting the
knee of white supremacy
off our necks

in the midst of
a pandemic

The president holds the
bible like a holiday fruitcake,
a prop

it's on almost all channels
except for the ones that
promised not to televise
this revolution

and on a stretch of
Greenville Highway a man
in a pick up truck drives
with a huge Confederate
flag mounted in the rear

flapping like the tongue
of a hungry dog

a few seconds later a
moving truck with the words
"Blacks Moving" heads down
the same stretch of highway

there are no protest
Signs, no chanting on
this stretch of highway

Just a steady wind

branches and bushes
moving like arms

in a show

of civil disobedience
