The Richard Donovan Graduating Prize in Case Excellence was created to honour the late Professor Richard Donovan's legacy.

It was under his leadership that MMICC was created and continues to draw talent from across the world to McGill. This award hopes to keep alive the passion, spirit, and values that Professor Donovan shared with so many students at case competitions.

On behalf of the entire MMICC community we are beyond heartbroken with the recent news of the passing of our mentor, coach and Superman extraordinaire Richard Donovan.

It was under his stewardship that the McGill Management International Case Competition came to be, and it was because of his passion and trust in his students that MMICC has grown to be the world class competition it is today. For 19 years, Professor Donovan has diligently guided each year’s committee to a successful week of academia and fun-filled events.

As committee members, we always knew that Professor Donovan was behind us in any decisions that we made and would be the first to lend a helping hand when needed. Acting as a substitute advisor for a multitude of schools over the years, coming to the rescue when room bookings fell through, and providing much needed advice and guidance to anyone who needed it, Professor Donovan was always the greatest champion of his students. His trust in our abilities has given us the courage to take risks and to try new things.

When we look back on our time with Professor Donovan we could not be more grateful for the life lessons we’ve learned, which have helped us grow both in an academic setting and will be ever present in our lives beyond McGill’s walls.

He will always be the heart of MMICC, and in his honour we will strive to make each year’s competitions better than the next.

Professor Donovan, you are loved by many and you will be greatly missed.

May you rest in peace, with much love and admiration,

A beloved professor and colleague to many at McGill University, our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
