The House & Senate gave trout a reason not to pout!
We are happy to announce the End Speculative Oil and Gas Leasing Act of 2023 was officially reintroduced in both the House & Senate yesterday.
The Act would require Bureau of Land Management to regularly assess oil and gas development potential on public lands managed by the BLM and Forest Service, and it would prohibit BLM from offering leases on lands determined to have little to no development or production potential.
“Trout Unlimited has long advocated for responsible energy development that is balanced with other multiple uses, such as recreation and fish and wildlife conservation,” said Pam Harrington, Nevada field manager for Trout Unlimited. “However, in places like Nevada’s Ruby Mountains, the potential for energy development is low and the risk is extremely high for degrading fish and wildlife and world class hunting and angling opportunities.”
Thanks to Senator Catherine Cortez Masto and Congresswoman Susie Lee for your leadership!

Last week Senator Catherine Cortez Masto introduced the Northern Nevada Rural Land Management, Conservation and Military Readiness Act a bill that, among many other things, would help to protect Nevada’s famed Ruby Mountains and their outstanding fish and wildlife resources.
“Trout Unlimited is grateful to Sen. Cortez Masto for her continued leadership to protect and preserve our public lands,” said Pam Harrington, Nevada Field Coordinator for Trout Unlimited. “She recognizes the importance of working together to find solutions that balance access to public lands, natural resource protection and conservation. Our public lands, such as the Ruby Mountains, are critically important to hunters and anglers, the regional economy and all Nevadans. We appreciate Sen. Cortez Masto’s work on the legislation related to the Northern Nevada Rural Land Management, Conservation, and Military Readiness Act."
