Peterbilt Motors Company commemorated its 70th anniversary of excellence in truck manufacturing today at its facility in Denton. In honor of this achievement, Peterbilt hosted select customers, dealers, community leaders and media at a special Anniversary event, celebrating 70 years of success with a global reputation for producing the highest quality products in the industry. "Since our first truck was produced in 1939, Peterbilt has become one of the most widely recognized and respected brands in the world - a universal symbol of pride, quality and Class," explained Bill Jackson, Peterbilt General Manager and Vice President of PACCAR. "This significant milestone could not be accomplished without the support of Peterbilt's dedicated employees, a superior dealer network, committed suppliers, as well as our valued customers and the community we serve." Over the past 70 years, nearly 700,000 trucks have worn the Peterbilt nameplate, a testament to the quality and reliability built into each and every Peterbilt. Since Coast Counties Truck and Equipment in San Jose, California first began selling Peterbilt trucks in 1949, the Peterbilt Dealer Network has experienced remarkable growth of its own. Now at a record 247 North America locations, the network celebrates 60 years of delivering Peterbilt Class and service to customers. "Peterbilt has always responded to the demands of the market with an ever-evolving product line. From the first logging trucks of the 30's and revolutionary cabover vehicles in the 40's, to the birth of an industry icon - the Model 359 in the 60's, Peterbilts have set the pace. In the 70's and 80's, the workhorses that built America were Peterbilt Models 348, 362 and legendary Model 379. Ushering in a new level of innovation in the 90's with the Model 387, Peterbilt now produces the most aerodynamic, fuel efficient vehicles available today, like our SmartWay Models 387, 386 and 384, said Larry Reding, Peterbilt Assistant General Manager of Sales and Marketing. "Our customers can trust that same level of innovation, quality and commitment will be dedicated to the next 70 years of product developments and we will continue to exceed customers' expectations." In total, there have been nearly 100 different Peterbilt truck model configurations in Peterbilt's 70-year history, all custom designed to meet the demands of the ever-changing marketplace. "Peterbilt's product history is a roadmap of revolutionary engineering solutions that continue to surpass customers' requirements and set the bar for the industry," said Landon Sproull, Peterbilt Chief Engineer. "For seven decades our engineers have dedicated themselves to developing products that improve customer productivity, maximize payloads, and increase aerodynamic performance." "Peterbilt will maintain its long tradition of excellence by continuing to engineer and manufacture products with the highest level of innovation, performance and value," said Jackson. "Peterbilt's unwavering commitment to exceed our customers' expectations has always been our first priority, and this has allowed us to enjoy 70 years of uncompromising Class, and that will be what drives us toward the next successful 70 years!"
