we are happy, proud and as usual late to announce you the list of ten wonderful finalists for the 9th edition of Some Like It Short. The Battle Royale will take place in BIO | OKO on Friday 31st of May, where you are all welcome to cheer and shout and stare at the big screen with dreamy eyes... and remember that the best movie is decided with popular vote, so bring your friends!

There’s still a week to go before the official deadline of May 12, so speed up your editing 🙂

Just as long as the smartphone short film I'll shoot to participate to Some Like It Short - NINE! The (very) famous smartphone movie minifestival, on Friday 31st of May 2024!

Hello hundreds of devoted followers!
you might have already seen the news you were expecting since last Summer - the festival will be back once more! This year, the 9th edition, will take place on May 31st! So start slowly getting ready, put your ideas together, find cast and crew, compose your soundtrack, prepare your award-receiving speech (probably the first thing yo should do): you have a little more than three months to present us with a smartphone-shot movie, at max 6 mins 17 seconds long.

You can start sending/wetransfering your movies to [email protected], we accept submissions from now until May 12th!

In comment you'll find the link to the event, you can use your smartphone-expert finger to click on it and then the same XXI century-bred finger to click on Going. Is someone still using Facebook events? Old people like Slis organisers do, so give them a hand, at their age, they don't know any better.

With the usual delay caused by too much afterparty zelená and smažak, Some Like It Short is proud to announce the official palmares of Some Like it Short 8 - la Ocho!! Thanks again to the wonderful and friendly audience, artist illustrator and designer banana-maker , the always-professional Jury, timely perfect or spiritually perfect translations from , magic sparkles from Jean-Claude Gandalf aka , perfect setting by and projections by , but most-of-all thanks to the creative minds who gave their best for sheer fame.

Some Like it Short 8 Official Palmares (*trumpet*):
- the “Uncertain Regard” golden banana, as chosen by our special Jury members, goes to: “Vánoce” by Krutý Krtek aka Karel.
- the Best Acting golden banana, as voted by the audience, goes to Aung Myo Thet for his role in “Daydream” by Eugene Cozlenco
- the BEST MOVIE, the most prestigious Golden Banana award, again voted by the audience, goes to: “Humans from Planet Earth” by !

Watchout for our golden bananas!
This year we are proud to have a golden artistic collaboration with , the artist name of Thea, aka .melin , who crafted our awards! Bananas of course, but made of ceramics. For the first time our awards won’t be good for banánový-čokoladový chlebiček, but will remain forever in your living room, witness of those times you were greeted by the crowd in Bio Oko. Amiazing! So show some appreciation, have a look on her other works too!

ONE WEEK AGO we (meaning us and you, of course) were delighted by the first ever round of Close Encounters of the Short Kind - Smartphone Doc Festival! in the lovely Žižkovian shelter of . Wonderful movies were screened, the audience then solemnly voted. The outcome was the following:

🏅🔎🍏The "Wow, I didn't know that?! - The Eye Opener" award went to... >>> "PŘE" by Agnes Vránová!

A greatly edited short overview on the nationalists' demonstrations on the Old Town square, protesting against the Covid-19 restrictions. APPLAUSES! 👏👏👏

🏆🔎🍏The "Best Documentary" award went to... >>> "PÉŤA" by Sarah Slavíčková!

A little journey through Prague's suburbs of Bohdalec, through memories, bike, glances and words of the protagonist: Péťa.

Well, celebrations of these two were one week due. So once again, chapeau! 🎩

Tonight from 20:31 to 22:01 in prostor39 , Prague-Žižkov, our baby Close Encounters of the Short Kind - Smartphone Doc Festival will come to life!

Come enjoy the CZ-EN friendly screening of the 8 short documentaries in competition and vote for the best one!

Now a little disclaimer: because the Covid situation is what it is in town, we remind you to come masked and vaccined or tested.

We also would like to inform you that we will restrain the audience to 80 people maximum. There will be a live instagram for the friends who cannot join in or fans feom abroad.

The projection room is on the 1st floor and the entrance fee (50 czk or more) can be paid there.
