UC Archaeology Field School 2016
The Archaeology Field School 2016 summer field class.
Our last day, we moved all the dirt back and closed our individual work spaces.
Two groups excavated multiple features in their squares while the rest worked on their depth.
Our team working on the samples that were pulled from the Little Miami.
Searching the Little Miami River for artifacts and doing some botanical sifting.
At the lab cleaning off and cataloging the artifact found at the site.
More digging work at the site, one group found multiple features in their unit!
The units are getting deeper, we also had some volunteers help us dig and sift!
At the lab again, categorizing and cleaning our finds.
Hard at work excavating our units.
Our first day cleaning off our finds and categorizing them.
Each team is measuring their unit and making maps, then they get to digging.
The First day on site, we move our equipment in, cleared the area of vegetation, and outlined our work areas.
Friday is our last day at the site, it will be a half day on site and the other half at our field research house in Harrison. Last chance to come see us in action!
Some units findings freshly cleaned and organized
Categorizing some finds from the last 2 days!
One awesome find today helped disprove a theory that was set last year. A grad student theorized that the site we are working on was a men's house, but today a student found a sheet of metal that women rolled to use on their dresses! The metal was used to help make noise while they danced. Awesome day!
The technical name for our site this summer is 33Ha837. Which is located in the large field next to the Mariemont swim club. Come check us out!
Today was the first day of actual digging! We had 3 groups set up and 2 of them found artifacts!! Among them were several pieces of flint, burnt deer bone, eagle bone, shells, pottery, and beans! These are amazing finds for the first day! Many more waiting to be discovered.
