Coming soon, in Maine!

Our Fall honey won first place for Dark/Amber and Best of Show for small scale beekeeping at the Texas Honey Show! Of course this has nothing to do with me as a beekeeper, but the excellent forage our bees have access to here in our little corner of beautiful Washington County.

Sweet Elsa, normally by my side for chores but now that the rains from Beta have begun she'll just watch me from the barn.

First hive check of the year. Each queen has already started laying and I was happy to see that the honey I had left for them was enough to get through Winter. They went easy on me prying through their homes and I think it's going to be a great Spring with the bees.

Last bee check for the year. Unfortunately not much Fall honey to spare after leaving enough for their Winter needs and taking a little for this beek's coffee. I think the rains came too little too late for good nectar flow, but they built up some great comb for a nice headstart to next year. And one last sting as if to remind me who's really in charge here.

No one was interested in fallen pecans until I started picking them up and now, I can't get to them fast enough. I'm lucky if I return home with a bagful.
