End of day 2 of working on the dogs at the European Open team tryouts. The talent of EVERY dog that has come across my table in the last two days is awe inspiring!
I wanted to thank everyone that signed up for my services at the upcoming UKI US Open. I know my process is a pain because of the tight sign up time constraint, but it went smoothly today and I appreciate everyone's patience. It's hard to come up with a means that gives everyone a fair shot at appointments, and this seems to work the best. For those that didn't get in and have contacted me, I've started a wait list in case I have any cancellations. Thanks again for everyone's support and patience. Looking forward to seeing everyone in Perry!
I'll be providing canine trigger point massage therapy at the US Open in November. Now that the ring schedules have been published I'll open my schedule for online sign-up on Friday, 10/28, at exactly 12:00 noon central time. Appointments will be available between Wednesday afternoon through Sunday afternoon. Available appointments will be shown on my calendar as soon as the schedule is open for sign up, and will be automatically removed once they fill. You can go to my calendar through my web site at www.texasanimalmassage.com and select "Schedule Dog Show Appointments" or you can go directly to my calendar at: https://kenbain2.fullslate.com/services/3. Appointments are limited and will fill quickly. Looking forward to seeing you in Perry! Let me know if you have any questions.
Just a reminder that I'll be working the UKI US Open in November and will be opening my schedule soon for sign up. I'll send out an announcement via email as well as posting here with information on how and when to sign up. I do not open my schedule for sign up until shortly after the ring schedules are published, which should be coming out soon. If you are a new client and sent me your email address, I'll include you on the announcement. Thanks for your patience. :-)
Here are the flyers for the two workshops I'm presenting in Durham, NC in November. Interested agility and flyball competitors are welcome to join us for a full day of learning how to massage and safely stretch your canine athlete. Professional canine massage therapists, veterinarians, and PTs are welcome to attend the advanced massage workshop for 3 days of learning the skills necessary to perform canine trigger point therapy using massage techniques. Both workshops are approved as continuing education classes under the NCBTMB certification program.
Anyone interested in taking my 8-hr Basic Massage for the Canine Athlete (11/14/16) or the 24-hr Advanced Massage for the Canine Athlete (11/11-13/16) workshops in Durham, NC please message me for a copy of the flyer for the respective workshop. Seats are limited.
I'll be traveling to Chicago next week to teach a workshop at the Chicago School of Canine Massage. Since I'm going to be out a couple days next week, I've added several appointments to Monday, 8/22. There are still a couple of open appointments available if anyone wants one.
I’ve had several folks ask me how much training is required to do trigger point therapy effectively using massage techniques. It’s a great question and one that I don’t have a great answer since every therapist is different. However, I recommend at least 60 hrs of specialized trigger point therapy training for humans and at least 48 hrs of specialized training for canines. I’ve been doing human trigger point therapy for over 10 years. I spent at least 4 years developing canine trigger point therapy techniques and an additional 6 years building on that foundation. I’m still learning.
I’ve seen some human therapists take a 6-hr continuing education course in trigger point therapy and claim to be trained in the modality. While technically true, the 6-hr course is only sufficient to train the concepts, but not the details.
I teach 2 canine trigger point therapy courses which are 24 hrs each for a total of 48 hrs. I’ve had several students repeat the second course because there is so much information to learn. So, I consider 48 hrs of training a minimum for dogs while some of my students prefer closer to 72.
Don’t be afraid to ask your therapist how much training they’ve completed in these modalities.
I'll be at the Houston World Series of Dog Shows providing trigger point massage therapy for dogs only (no humans) on Thursday, 7/21. I can only support on Thursday because I've been invited to support the AKC's EO Team USA at this year's European Open in France and our travel dates conflict with the Houston show.
I'll be taking appointments for the morning session and open up the afternoon session to first come first serve. You can make a morning appointment at: www.texasanimalmassage.com and select Schedule Dog Show Appointments. Hope to see you there.
For those of you that had appointments scheduled with me this week, you should have received a cancellation notice on Sunday evening. Unfortunately, a couple of you didn't receive the cancellation notice even though my software said it went out. I'm sorry my online scheduling software let us both down. Please be aware that all appointments this week have been cancelled. Sorry for the inconvenience. :-(
Best way to work on a dog during a cold Dutch morning!
Last chance to sign up for the Advanced Massage for the Canine Athlete (5/2-4/16) and Canine Trigger Point Therapy Protocols (5/6-8/16) workshops in Elizabeth, CO, hosted by the Rocky Mountain School of Animal Acupressure and Massage. These workshops are designed for the therapist who wants to improve their skills with working with sporting/competition dogs. For more details: http://www.rmsaam.com/course-cat/workshops/
We are going to have to cancel my Ohio class which means I'm opening my office schedule for 4/20 & 4/21 and 4/26 - 4/28. That should help since between the Netherlands, Ohio, and Colorado, I would have been out of the office for a month.
OK, folks, I've heard you. I've been running at 100% capacity for a while now and been getting complaints that you have to book 3-4 weeks in advance. Starting in May I will be increasing my capacity by offering appointments on Mondays following non-working weekends. Hope that helps!
