Speech Pathology Pakistan
A resource center for professionals, patients, and parents of individuals with communication and swallowing disorders
For Professionals: This is a platform for SLPs in Pakistan to come together and discuss issues related to our field, and also provide online guidance regarding different disorders of communication and swallowing. For Patients/parents: Diagnostic and therapeutic services are provided online by speech language pathologists (educated and trained in the US & UK, ASHA/RCSLT certified) for clients in Pakistan and beyond. Therapy can be provided in English, Urdu or Pashto.
As we close the month of June, we are proud to recognize the incredible advocacy and volunteer efforts of our community members from around the globe. We recently held an inaugural scholarship competition open to anyone in our community to recognize international volunteer and advocacy efforts positively impacting the lives of those living with swallowing disorders. We received over a dozen high quality applications and it is my greatest pleasure to announce this year's winner, speech-language pathologist, Faiza Badar.
Faiza is a dedicated speech-language pathologist based in Islamabad, Pakistan, who has a strong focus on dysphagia management. Recognizing the prevalence of pneumonia in post-stroke patients and the limited availability of dysphagia assessment and management services in Pakistan, as well as the lack of training and resources in this field, Faiza has been actively working to develop and advocate for dysphagia services in her country.
She has conducted training sessions, lectures, and research to raise awareness among healthcare professionals, students, and the general public. Faiza has also published an editorial on the need for immediate swallowing screening in emergency departments and has delivered keynote speeches at international conferences. She has utilized various platforms, such as TV programs and social media, to promote safe swallow practices. Additionally, Faiza has developed assessment forms, educational materials, and support groups to support individuals with dysphagia and their families. She aspires to continue her efforts, seeking support and guidance from international organizations to address the challenges associated with dysphagia in Pakistan.
Kudos, Faiza! 🥳

Team NOWPDP had the honor of being invited by the President of Pakistan and the First Lady of Pakistan to the Presidency (Aiwan-e-Sadr) to discuss a roadmap for disability inclusion in our country, as part of the State's efforts for poverty alleviation. NOWPDP, along with the Govt of Sindh DEPD, offered its support to the Presidency and the Project Ehsaas Team for working together for the development of inclusive Centers of Excellence, for holistic disability inclusion across Pakistan. These recommended Centers of Excellence will look to provide guidance and registration for Special CNIC, NAVTTC mandated Skills Training, Corporate Job Placements/Start-up & legal aid Counseling through a public-private partnership - where (we hope) that the government provides funding and premises, and the private sector its subject matter expertise. The Presidency is committed to the cause of disability inclusion, from shanakth to khud mukhtari, and is working across political and provincial lines to consider the impact of such centers in all provinces, plus GB and AJK. The next meeting is scheduled in the coming month to discuss progress towards disability inclusion.

Here's what you need to know about autistic stimming
https://www.andnextcomesl.com/2019/03/autism-stimming.html
Khalid Al Ameri
Several situations have happened around the world where a family has been removed from the an airplane because their child who is on the autism spectrum had a meltdown due to inconveniences that could have been prevented.
Travel can be stressful for anyone let alone a child on the autism spectrum, and for Salama and I this has always been a concern for us and something we try to our best to prepare for. What we have learned through this video is that there is a "Special Service Code" DPNA which stands for "Disabled Passenger with intellectual or developmental disability needing assistance".
Travellers can use this code with the travel agent or airline when booking a flight which will then allow them to list the support they need such as boarding the flight early, getting a hot meal upon boarding, or ensuring that you are all sitting together, essentially anything that can be done to make the travel experience as soon as possible.
The problem here is that Airlines and Airports are not required to cater to the requirements when you use a DPNA code, more importantly many passengers around the world don't even know it exists. That is why it is so important to raise awareness for the DPNA code, to push our airlines and our airports to acknowledge the code and ensure that travel is inclusive no matter what your needs are, so that we can all experience travelling this world with safety and dignity.
Much love and God bless.
Thank you Travelport and Etihad Airways for raising awarness about the DPNA code and making this video possible, and for all the work you are doing to make global travel inclusive and safe for everyone.
