I worked on the entrance of a hair salon in Shibuya, Tokyo. The store is based on antique style and I apply various styles of tiles, sea glasses and antique materials to make treasure boxes. Cracking and slippery ground must be considered when you apply any kind of cements. You can find non-slip tiles these are not always good options to use if you consider the price or design.

I highly recommend rough surface of joint or wide joint gap to prevent slipping issues. Joint cement needs to be arranged so that it will not crack easily when the joint gap will be more than 10 mm. Applying mosaic tiles is one of the best ways to change looks fabulously and effectively.

I used white cements to make middle part of motif and marbled glass parts vivid. I've concerned too much about making each pieces of tile clear and conspicuous but It was actually nice to make it simple using similar color of cements. I seriously considered the color combination this time. So I’m glad to know that it fit well at customer's room too.

今回の商品はオーダー受付のスツール兼サイドテーブルです。真ん中のモチーフデザインとマーブルガラスが目立つようにあえて周りのタイルは薄い色のタイル&白目地にしてみました。今まではタイルを際立たせる事に集中してましたが、全体の雰囲気の為にあえて控えめなモザイクタイルを部分に使ってもいいですね。脚部分が濃い茶色なので配色にはすごく気を使いました。お客様のお部屋にもマッチしたようでとても嬉しいです。

These Italian tiles was used in a Japanese public bath called "Sento"and had been in business for over 83 yrs.

I saw the picture how it used to be and it was amazingly beautiful. It's quite different compared to the typical Japanese Sento. It was unfortunate that they broke down such wonderful place. But I was in luck that the lady who got the reserved tiles from the old Sento offered to give some of them to me.

I'm grateful to have these tiles and hopefully I can use it in a tremendous way that can arouse people's curiosity about tiles.

今回のタイルはふとしたきっかけで自分のもとにきたタイル。８３年間営業されていた銭湯で使われていたイタリアンタイルです。

銭湯のご主人から譲り受けた方と不思議なご縁で私が譲り受ける運びとなりました。このタイルが一面に貼られていた銭湯の写真を拝見しましたが、日本の銭湯とは一風変わったとてもステキなものでした。

この銭湯が壊されてしまったことはとても残念です。それでもそんな歴史も含めてこのタイルを自分の手でまた違った形で生かせたらいいなと。こういうステキなタイルが人の目にとまり、タイルの文化が少しずつまた広がっていったらステキですね。

These conspicuous boarder tile are good to use its own or mix with cracked mosaic tile. It will look totally different depend on color combination!

I tried to use three different colored cements on this triangle coffee table. Wood design table is always good but mosaic tile table will be great accent for your room!

三角形のコーヒーテーブルにモザイクタイルを貼ってみました。それぞれのタイルに合う目地を施すため今回は3色の目地にしてみました。
木製のみのテーブルもシンプルでステキですが、天板にタイルが貼られているだけでかなり印象が変わります。

Final update from skateboard shop call “Backyard “. MTW put vivid color cracked tiles with Mexican skull mosaics. These are great effect inside of concrete arch and looks totally different from before.

今回スケートパークの一部にモザイクタイルを貼らせて頂きました。周りがコンクリートのシンプルなグレーなのでアーチ内部はカラフルなモザイクタイルで仕上げてみました。
メキシカンスカルをモチーフにアーチのR部分を生かしたデザインです。

I want to make that the thing better, if I use some recycle materials. That could be real "Recycle". I will make mosaic tile with old skateboard decks this time.

リサイクルする上で心がけてることがあります。ごみとして捨てられるものをただもったいないという気持ちで拾いあげるんではなくって、元の形を生かしてさらに違ったものに再生できたらいいなと。今回は使用済みのスケートボード板材を使ってモザイクタイルを作ろうと思います。

Here is a cabinet with mosaic tile! The cabinet is little too simple...so I decorated it more colorful with mosaic tiles using blue color cements. I also put Japanese retro tiles and it made for the good accent.

This is the shop logo with mosaic tile.

I made it with grinde texture like terrazzo and mixed with cracked and squared mosaic tiles. Using gravel makes cement harder than mortal cement. You don't need to put any top coats because the surface is shine enough and good combination with tiles.

Here is a part of renovation of exterior work.
Installed the terracotta tiles on under the old tiles.
Terracotta tiles is great combination with bricks and all kinds of plants.
These 3D white tiles became great accent for this garden.

モザイクタイルワークス | Sayaka Kira モザイクタイルアーティスト・Sayaka Kiraのポートフォリオサイト。

今回は石原邸の研ぎ石柱のある立水栓のリフォームです。

研ぎ石とは昭和にはよく行われていた左官仕上げのひとつで一昔前の学校の床や水道まわり、公園にあった滑り台、駅でよく見かけていた気がします。

このよく見かける研ぎ石も今となってはかなり貴重で、施工にはかなりの技術が必要です。

熟練の職人さんでないと今はもう出来ない左官仕上げのひとつなのでこの柱部分だけはこのまま残し、水受け部分のセメント破損が激しい下地補修と装飾としてモザイクタイルを施工することになりました。

目地は薄いグレー仕上げなので比較的乾いてるときはシンプルですが、雨に濡れたり、水を流すとグレーが濃くなってタイルピースが浮き上がってより引き立ちます。

ひとつひとつのタイルピースとレトロタイルなどの懐かしいデザインタイルを木製スツールに張ってます。

また、木製部分にはニスを塗っておりますので水や汚れの浸透を防ぐ効果があります。

（注）完全防水ではない為室内でのご利用がおすすめです。

山梨県小菅村に住む黒澤夫妻の新しい新居はログビルダーたちと一緒につくるログハウス。

作業のひとつひとつに色んな思い出を刻みつつ色んな人が関わってみんなでつくってます。

私は２０１４年の冬からちょこちょこお世話になり、黒澤邸にモザイクタイルをはらせて頂くことに。

今回やっと窓枠モザイクタイルの施工が完了したのでそんなステキな黒澤邸を公開。

じっくり自分の住家をつくっていくのはもちろん手間も苦労もたくさんありますが、

それだけに愛情たっぷり。

今回は窓からの景色が絵のように感じられるような、シンプルな額縁スタイルにしてみました。

ここから見る四季折々の風景が楽しみになるといいなぁ。


今回のモザイクタイル張りは多くの人の助けがあってなんとか無事に張り終えることができました。
